Is it true Allen didn't know of his transfer until a mate texted him about it? If that's true I find that a little disappointing from the club. Great win at the weekend hopefully we can keep the momentum going.

Allen never seemed the sort of guy to bad mouth a club after leaving so I'd almost believe it to be true, really hope it's not though!

{Ed001's Note - I don't get why it matters. He knew he was surplus, he didn't have to sign there if he didn't want to. Players never used to know about moves until the last second. I can remember saying to one then Liverpool player about his move to another team one night and him being all confused and thinking I had lost the plot. The fact his mate knew before him is far from great it is just common courtesy that the club should inform him before others. It's probably not intentional though by the club to leak it wonton speak.

Hmm but let's flip this on the head, half the reason this site exists is so we can access rumours and news first. That in itself drives these very leaks that we are complaining about. Can't have your cake and eat it.

I personally have to agree with the OP, i think its disrespectful to say the least not to at least inform them of the offer being accepted. Same thing happened to Tony Hibbert after 25 years at Everton, who was understandably hurt by the lack of humility. He may not have been a world beater but like Hibbert, i think Joe deserves better.

I would think the club would have at least contacted his agent indicating they were accepting an offer? Or is it up to the buying club to make that connection? Either way, it's hard to imagine he was too surprised by it happening.

I don't care, as the Ed said he didn't have to go if he didn't want to. At the end of the day each player is the clubs asset to sell so why should they be included in the offer/ acceptance process as this part of the transaction is between the two clubs.

Their contract will mean that when it comes down to it they have the choice to go or dig their heels in. I'm sure little Joe will be fine he's a good player and will thrive at Stoke.

I think it's more his agent not keeping his client informed of the progressing situation.

Allen knew he wasn't first choice, he must have known he was up for sale, especially after being so good in the Euro's. I just find it a bit rich coming from him that he wasn't given a step by step update on the situation. Sky Sports reported that Stoke were bidding and the next few days he was gone.

But then Allen seemed like a stand up chap and always seemed to carry himself professionally, so i'm not going to moan about him, more so i'm surprised by his naivety around his sale to another club (which i believe he had to agree to) . But then that being typed, i do need to point out that i'm not up on how the finer points of transfers work.

Couple things for me - loyalty and integrity should go both ways. And secondly and more related to the OP, I think the right thing to do is at least communicate with the player first once confirmed. Would justseemthe prudent thing to do. Imagine going to work and then finding out on the news you'd been let go lol (i know that isn't a perfect analogy! )

Couple of things for me- loyalty and integrity. Are you having a laugh, 99% of both left football when Rick Parry 'invented' the premier league just after the FI*A world cup in 1990. They changed our sport into one of the biggest businesses on the planet. I'm over it now, I just try to enjoy the footy.

I would have thought Stoke would have been in touch with his agent to see if he was receptive to the move and what kind of wages he would expect . He knew it was on the cards long before the club accepted the offer.

Cheif - that may be so, but doesn't mean ya can't have integrity. I think going off of eds comments, that lfc would be far better received at negotiation time if they acted with more integrity.

Ed001, is it possible tgat allen learned of a fee being agreed as per his story? So he may have only had known he had negotiations comin up after the fact. Anyways, it does seem a bit of a funny one to be questioning it now. I remember a few weeks ago in some articles that it seemed allen knew he was surplus and klopp had suggested as much publicly. Gone now anyways!

It still doesn't alter the fact that his mate knew before him that the club had accepted an offer for him. If his mate could contact him to let him know, then surely the club could have done the same. In my opinion it showed a lack of respect for one of their employees and a lack of class from the club, which won't have gone unnoticed by the rest of the squad.

i get what you're saying ed. for me, i see it as 2 separate events, and in both cases the club are responsbile for both - they should advise players they deem are surplus to requirements. and then I think they should ensure that the player or his reps are first to know that they have accepted a bid either way, players shouldn't be finding out these kinds of things via the public. or maybe they should!? I'm speaking from an outsider's point of view of course :)

{Ed001's Note - for one, Allen knew he was surplus the moment Rodgers got the boot, as no other manager would want a player so hopelessly mediocre at Liverpool. He was also told so before the Euros. So he knew that he would go, if there was anyone interested in taking him.

Secondly, his reps were the first to be informed when a deal was done. How else could the club complete the deal if the player doesn't agree terms? This is an absolute non-story. The lad is making a fool of himself trying to pretend he was hard done by.

If anything he was lucky to get a chance to join such a great club when he is so utterly mediocre as a player. He earnt a huge amount of money in return. He should just be glad he got the chance, very few do. No one can fault his effort, but he was simply nowhere near good enough.}
