Hey ed001 and other posters,
Wondering what your thoughts are on Lallanas more central performance against Arsenal, if I'm not mistaken he was played in his more traditional role at Southampton and found he was quite effective against Arsenal.

P. S first post on the site but a long term reader, massive fan of the work you and the other Eds put into the site!

{Ed001's Note - he played mainly on the left of the attacking three in the Prem at Southampton, not centrally. He was poor, in my opinion, for most of the game, dwelling on the ball and losing it a few times. However, he stepped up when it mattered and it is the first game so might just have been off the pace due to a bit of rustiness. For me though, they found it easy to attack us through the middle, he offers little defensively, other than getting in the way. Sadly he was at fault on the first and got in Clyne's way to allow Oxlade-Chamberlain to get past far too easily, with no real attempt to stop him. I really was not impressed with him at all for 85 minutes of the match. He needs to quicken up or he is going to end up being a liability.}

Sorry but we have all got to stop looking for positives in players that just aren't there, people down the page saying Mingolet played well trying to find microscopic parts of morenos play be positive about and lallanas next in line by the look of it.

Making excuses and trying to stay positive about a player is one of the reasons we haven't won the league since 90, these three are simply not good enough, there so poor that when they do manage to put in an above average performance people jump on it like there world beaters. Let's just call a spade a spade, not good enough end of!

Are you saying that Barry Venison was a better player than Moreno?

The juicer i'd dare say torben piechnik was a better left back than moreno and torben was a cd couldn't have been much worse the more I watch of moreno the more im. convincing myself konchesky was a much better left back even tho I know it can't possibly be true although around February last season sky did a article on the premier leagues best defenders and amazingly moreno was at the top of the assist list no idea why or how.

Barry Venison was a very underrated player. If memory serves me right he was captain of Sunderland against Norwich in a Milk Cup final in Wembley. Plus he had lovely hair.
Unlike me so it's not a Barry thing.

The best football I saw since 1990 was Rodgers' 13/ 14, and Klopp's tenure to date is shaping up in a similar manner.

The best team I saw since 1990 was Benitez'. Better balanced and defended as a unit. Get the spine right and go from there. And presently, for me, the keeper is not right, centre defence lacks pace, as does deeper midfield.
So it goes beyond nit picking Moreno to bits.
IF Lucas was Kante, and Lovren was Sol Campbell and Mignolet was Clemence what would you think then?

waro,

i don't think it's about trying to find microscopic positives. it's more about giving praise where it's due. we hammer said players enough for the bad stuff.

moreno for whatever reason you want to give was much less of a car crash/ liability in the 2nd half - and mingo saved a pen and wasn't at fault for any of the goals we conceded.

i know you struggle with positivity waro ;)

{Ed001's Note - that is not giving credit where it is due though. Moreno was not as crap is not being positive, it is embarrassing that it has become our aspiration. Paisley would have cleaned house the moment he took over, the likes of Moreno would not have even had time to say hello boss before Paisley would have got them out of the door. Unfortunately times have changed and we seem to have a requirement to mollycoddle underperforming players, because otherwise we might hurt the dears feelings.

Fore me watching the warm ups summed up Moreno, he was doing the warm up routine in the circle, and at every change of exercise he was the last to notice it had changed, even though he was near the coach, because he wasn't listening. He clearly does not listen to instruction, if you are not going to listen and learn, then you will not improve. If you are not going to improve then you have to go. Every single player should be looking to improve constantly or be shipped out for someone who is.}

Hi Eds

I may be making this up, but i'm sure at some point last season it was mentioned that Moreno was having trouble learning English. If this is true, do you think that has anything to do with him not listening to instructions?

I struggle to believe he was as bad defensively with Sevilla as he is with us, otherwise we wouldn't have signed him in the first place.

As i said, i may have made this up entirely, and I never really watch post-match interviews or anything so never heard him speak, was just curious.

{Ed002's Note - Scraping the barrel for excuses - but you are right his English is poor and only maginally better than Gerrard's.}

87red, it's not positivity though is it it's blind faith, a never ending hope that one day they'll learn one day the penny will drop but it won't and people like yourself excusing poor players will keep undermining the team and we'll all end up accepting mediocrity as the norm and anything slightly above that will have the masses all excited over a player who's slightly above average, actually I'm not sure if we're not already at that point to be honest the way some fans on here go overboard about an OK performance.

If we want to get back to were we were then accepting mediocrity is not an option, if you want to go down that path then can I suggest you go and support Everton, there's a best selling dvd 📀 out now EVERTONS 50 GREATEST THROW INS! That should get you started fella😉.

Waro is right. 87red, saying that somebody is negative because he speaks the truth is the hight of moral bankrucy, IMO. It is not an insult to say that a player who is awful, is awful. That is a statement of fact. People should stop always trying to paint a rosey picture about our club and certain players in areas where they are severely lacking. We will never be able to tell the hard truths and have a meaningful and honest debate about the issues if many on here keep telling us that the sun is shining whereas, we are seeing dark clouds. Moreno is awful and has been since he got here. That is a fact that can be verified by visual evidence. As Ed said, the guy is almost mentally unfit to be a professional footballer as he doesn`t listen, uncoachable and doesn`t seem to actually care about improving. It is because many make pathetic axcuses for poor players being poor is the reason why they are still here and why we can`t get a title run going. Sometimes, there are no silver linings after a storm and you have to make decisive decisions. if you cannot contribute to our success, you need to get gone, period. Stop defending the indefensible because you don`t wanna sound negative or because you wanna look like our no.1 fan as it`s becoming boring and is showing rank irresponsibility to do so.

Ed001 credit to you. Like many of us I have read almost everything there is to read about the Arsenal Liverpool match. You are the only one to mention Lallana hindering Clyne for their goal. Great shout from you.

{Ed001's Note - has it not been mentioned before? I thought it was one of the most noticeable features. I am not a fan of Clyne's defending, but it is difficult for him to defend when his own team mate blocks him off!}

I saw the lame hearted challenge he put in which only seemed to distract Clyne who if left alone, would have done a better job of stopping the Ox. Lallana was just loitering there and eventually contributed to the goal instead of preventing it.
