Right folks got to good topic to debate here. Imo against the top teams a DM is a must a specialist if u like, now as we all no lucas is injured which leaves kev stuart now I'm not sure if he's quite ready to start at the Emirates opening day? But what I will say is that this kid is developing at a rate of knots, I thought he was awesome against Barcelona I no friendly ra ra ra but compare him from was it Exeter last season. as I say just summat to discuss but how would the reaction be on here or Twitter if Kev Stuart started on sat at the Emirates, I think he deserves his shot actually.

I'd be utterly shocked and dismayed.

I'd be ok if Kevin Stewart started though. Seems like he could make another step up.

A little bit like a McMahon, no?

22 years old, he is still young but old enough to be a regular, so now needs to show consistency to get that starting spot each week.

I really hope he can continue to develop as I see a lot of Didi Hamann in his styles and footballing gestures.

One for perhaps Mr Alladyce to consider if he is a regular too!

So after a few OK cameo appearances you've got him as a regular in our side and an international, and some people say fans over react!

Nothing against the kid and he may well turn into a good player and I hope he does but small steps hey, let the kid find his way.

Agree with Waro on this, I think he looks neat and tidy on the ball and can evidently read the game. However on numerous occasions I saw him squander possession, never force the issue with play and rarely was dominant in the mid. Has a long way to go for me to be a regular.

Waro is right.

Too much pressure

Puts a foot wrong and the vultures on here will be out in force.

Don't necessarily agree about 'DM is a must', I think we get too wrapped up in the latest 'tactical norm' and are afraid to step outside the box. A world class midfielder can perform the function of a DM without being designated/ limited to that position. It's all about how you organise the midfielders.
As for Stewart, he did well against Barcelona but they were so far behind us in terms of fitness that I don't think it's a good comparison.
Selection should be in merit and according to tactical plan. If he's doing well in training then there's no reason why he shouldn't start against Arsenal.
If he wants to be a regular he needs more games and more experience.

Stewart is nearly 23. He is hardly a kid. At his age he should be wanting a starting spot which i don't think he will get at Lfc.

I would be absolutely devastated as he will be knackered if we start him on Saturday as we don't play them till Sunday 😉. I would be happy to start him I think he is coming on very nicely but I will await to see what klopps team is and just hope we can pick up the three points and get a positive start to the new season.
