Hi just to let everyone know my son did ok at his trials tonight. Got a goal and assistance. But was a bit over awed by it and didn't get involved as much as normal. Will find out June 7th as that's when they get a decision on grade 3 for there academy.

Good luck to your boy Jay. A goal and an assist that's better than Benteke! I'm sure the academy coaches take into consideration nerves at that age and will judge accordingly! Nevertheless you must be so proud?

Thanks everyone yeah I'm very proud. Told him there will be more chances to impress but think this trial will be the end for the time being. Shame he had a great season with 5 goals and 12 assists in 15 games.

My son is at a well known Academy down south and has been there 3 yrs now. One thing we've learnt Jay is that you never know exactly what they see or are looking for! What we think is often so different from what they think!

It's a bit like the opinions on here!

Trust me they will know if he has potential to make it. All I'd advise is enjoy the journey while it lasts. We've seen many sad faces as decisions are made and there's nothing you can do. Just be proud as I am and see what happens.

Good luck!

Getting released at academy level is by no means the end of the world, as long as he keeps playing other chances will come along. Just as long as he keeps training and improving his game, and enjoying doing so then better opportunities will be there!

So many good kids out there now all trying to get that break. When teams like Brentford decide to abandon their whole academy set up it just makes it so much harder.

My son plays in a team with ex academy players who I think are better than some players who are still in academies.

Timing and luck are so crucial.

Hope it goes well for your son.

Dedicated parents following there kids dreams love it good luck to your son Jay and other parents doing the same, God knows I tried with my boy only to find out he'd rather play 10 different sports at once, which is cool too, just thought he was the next John Barnes haha.
