Is Joe Allens Liverpool career about to make the sharpest U-turn since Fabian Delph said he was staying at Aston Villa?

Unlikely.

No.

I don't want to be down on a lad who's scored a crucial goal for us and Allen's not the worst player around by any stretch of the imagination. But he's shown over his Liverpool career that he can't produce good performances consistently. He strings a few decent matches together and then has a few mares in a row. And then gets either injured or dropped. Don't see why that's going to change.

I'd rather see him play than Milner because Milner is all running and bluster with no craft or intelligence, but I wouldn't start him against the Mancs (although Klopp might), I'd go Lucas, Hendo and Can.

We don't really have any other player like allen though I feel. he really spices things up in are midfield. can and lucas are great for defensive dutys. allen is great for atacking while also breaking up play and reading the game. henderson is a bit of everything. 2 attackig midfeiders is better than 1. henderson and allen are great at intricate passes. i would only play can and lucas if we need to be more defensive or if there are no other options.

Allen lacks game intelligence I'm afraid. He gets the ball and without looking instantly wants to get rid of it usually to a defender.
He's the opposite of Molby IMO.

I think Allen is very effective against teams that play with the ball on the ground (best games have been against Arsenal, Man City. ) but gets completely lost when playing against direct physical sides that use pace, strength and aerial ability. Man Utd destroyed him by putting fellaini against him.

I personally think we can do better simply because others are more versatile and can withstand an aerial barrage (Hendo/ Can) but there's no doubting he's a useful player.

Well done on the goal -good run into the box, a vital finish and sharply taken.

I think to be fair to Joey Allen has been decent. But I think it doesn't help anyone with a team a bit unbalanced with a lot of central players in MF!

I'm afraid that's the old Allen you're describing, not this bearded one . He passed very well today and kept the ball longer when he needed to.
