Fans want a top striker but have to be realistic . Benzema is top class but won't be coming for example. We have interest in vietto who i like but young and would have to settle in the league. Also other clubs are interested.
There really is few top strikers in Europe who are viable.
Benteke might be strong and have hit some form but I do not rate him as being good enough. He would be another expensive disaster.
Mandzukic maybe but I don't think we are interested. Ings looks the likeliest. It's really up to the scouts to find the talent.

I have my fingers crossed we land Ings.

He reminds me of Torres at the same age.

Will we even have the funds to purchase a "top class" striker ??

I agree, which is why last summer's incredible misuse of money is all the more appalling. We had CL and we should have spend that money on a top striker.

Mandzukic is awful . Brutal. Very slow .

Ings I would take out of what is realistic. He has been excellent at times. Good young striker. Quick,good touch,movement and good finisher. He will only get better.

I think Ings is very much an unnecessary buy when we have Origi to come in from his loan. It seems to me that they will both be fighting over the same game time. I would much rather we look to promote one of our younger strikers, Ojo, Sinclair, Yesil.

I agree with BrisbaneLFC, Ings will just be another un-proven player and this is the sort of buys LFC have been doing for years in the hope of un-earthing a real player. Needless to say, it has failed miserably on many a occasions regularly.

I want Ings up front with Sturridge (when Sturridge is fit). We can't go into the season with Sturridge as our only striker over 20 years old.

I fear a lot of people are going to be disappointed when they see Origi next year. He is a 3rd choice striker at best.

{Ed002's Note - And Vietto?}

EMS, As I said previously I think Ings and Origi will be fighting over the same playing time. To me it has to be one or the other and we already own one of them. I read an article today where Ings said he didn't want to step up and take a penalty for Burnley and miss it through fear of not wanting to be responsible for confirming their relegation. If he doesn't want to or can't step up for Burnley, I can't see him making the step up to Liverpool. As Ed002 has alluded, I would much rather LFC make a massive play for Vietto to play with and without Sturridge, than see Danny Ings.

I believe Liverpools way forward is to promote from within with what we already have here in the academy. Its what I want to be our next manager's main charter. Promote from within first, then look to buy. Though Ironically, I am sure BR was tasked with this anyway.

Bedder
That's why scouts are in place otherwise what are they paid for. They are there to spot a striker who could turn out to be decent or sensational for us in the league.
There is a lot of talent in Europe that are not as well known to fans

Big Al is right. As for Ings, he is not what we need if we need goals in the team. If we are getting Depay for20m, paler we don't need in my opinion, then we should add some more money and get a striker who can stay healthy and score goals.

I think we'll sign Vietto or Ings Ed. Surely not both?

They're both similar in terms of development though so Ings is a lower risk option in my opinion. I personally think Ings is vastly under rated. 35 goals and 12 assists in his last 2 seasons. He's also made nearly 80 appearances in that time which rubbishes the injury prone myth.

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure EMS.}

Ings for me is a no brainer. Already has good talent with a lot of potential for improvement too. If he wants to join then sign him up, it's a gamble worth taking in my opinion. However I wouldn't think we would look to sign just one single striker especially if Ings is a small fee paid. I believe Ed said we are interested in Gameiro too and if that fee is not too steep I would be delighted with signing him. Obviously a lot can change between now and summer but I'm not too worried, surely we can't get it tremendously wrong yet again!

Ed2 with Ings and Vietto our forward targets, will that change if a new manager is bought in?

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer that.}

Ed002 - {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure EMS.} was the not so sure answering about Ings injury worries or signing Vietto as well? I have seen Vietto quite a few times just from Villarreal games being shown on TV and he does look a good finish with either foot and lightning quick

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure about any of it.}
