Hi reds, happy new year all! I have a question for the Eds if that's all good?

I want to preface this by saying I don't at all believe that Mbappe will be moving to Liverpool, but I wanted to ask the Eds why they think we've been consistently linked as his 2nd most likely destination after Real Madrid over the last few years? As links are again appearing with him out of contract in the summer.

He surely would cost far too much in wages, doesn't really fit the 'we make superstars rather than buy them' transfer policy we've tended to have, doesn't really fit our tactical plans/ fill a hole in our squad and he seemingly has his heart very set on Madrid. But we're still always put forward as the other option he has and he's even spoken himself about speaking to Klopp, so I also wonder if there's no smoke without fire in that we have at least ambitiously registered some sort of interest with him and his entourage? As I just don't really understand where all the noise keeps coming from because it seems so unlikely.

Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware why Liverpool have been linked with signing the player so often. The costs of signing to player are huge, even as a Free Agent. I do not see Liverpool committing to such a huge signing on fee, cost of wages and bonuses to be able to sign Mbappe. There are other clubs potentially in the mix.}

Simple answer?
Clickbait + transfer frenzied fans.
If fans didn't read it, they wouldn't bother putting it out there.

I think they are thinking Salah moves in the summer for £100 million plus, frees up £300 thousand plus in wages and you get Mbappe rumours. Just a theory but I think some journalists do think this.
