Any legs in Bayern wanting our bobby Ed's do u think he would want too leave.

{Ed002's Note - Roberto Firmino (F) Bayern see RF as a versatile forward who can play on the left or through the middle but they have other priorories, so nothing is likely to happen. A way down the list.}

Why would Bobby swap the champions of the Premier League for the champions of the Bundesliga? Doesn't make much sense.

What none of us know is what footballing ambitions or dreams any player has. They may include winning as many trophies as possible; playing for one or more of the world’s most famous clubs; playing different types of football in different leagues; sampling the different cultures in several continents or countries; having a settled long-term base to raise a family; staying with his hometown club for his full career; earning as much money as possible in what is a relatively short career; or a mix of these. We should simply enjoy the great players that come to our great club and wish them all the best if and when they move on.

{Ed025's Note - only one of those has any credibility WW ....its the money mate and anyone who claims different...is lying through their teeth..

Ed025, such cynicism in one so young! I will give you 3 examples off the top of my head to challenge your view :

Matt Le Tissier - could have had his pick of the big teams, earned more money, been more famous, won more trophies but stayed with Southampton throughout his career.

Alan Shearer - when he left Blackburn, was wanted by Manchester United where he would have earned more money and won more trophies but signed for his boyhood club Newcastle United instead.

Steven Gerrard - could definitely have signed for Chelsea and probably a number of other top clubs, earned more money and won the PL trophy but stayed with Liverpool.

Other posters will have lots of other examples.

{Ed025's Note - le tissier was from a different era WW so we can dismiss him, shearer followed the cash to go to blackburn and at newcastle was still one of the highest paid players in the league, gerrard tried to leave for the cash but buckled under the pressure of threats to him and his family...but good try mate.. :)

Posters, help! Please come to my assistance and demonstrate to Ed025 that modern footballers are not all the greedy, money-grabbing, selfish so-and-sos he would have us believe. Or am I hopelessly naive?

Oh, and Ed025 - didn’t your very own Binman turn down an approach from Ferguson before he signed Schmeichel to stay with the Blues?

{Ed025's Note - again a different era WW, its all about the money now mate and i wish i could say different..but i cant..

Ighalo? took a pay cut to join Man Utd last month?

What about all the Juve players that stayed when the club was relegated? They took a 25% pay cut i believe to stay with the club they loved?

Totti turning down Real Madrid to stay at Roma?

Lahm turning down Barc to stay at Bayern?

Hamsik turning down Juve to stay at Napoli?

What about Jamie Vardy? Turned down a pay rise at Arsenal to stay at Leicester?

I am sure there are plenty others! COme on people help us out here. All of those players could have earnt more if they moved!

Red Sandman.

{Ed025's Note - ighalo made a mistake going to china and so im not counting him sandman, but there are a few good examples there mate...especially totti, but the lack of genuine candidates actually validates my original assumption i feel..

To be fair 0025 I only managed a list of less than 10 and it took me a good while to pull it together. You on the other hand could rattle off about 100 names of players who chased the money so I think your point very much stands true.

Do you think a salary cap is the way to go or are we now too far gone?

Red Sandman.

{Ed025's Note - i think there is no turning back on this one sandman, agents have all the say now mate and im afraid we are stuck with it..

Red Sandman, thanks for the support.

Ed025, I have to concede this one to you. I still think there are some players in the modern game who are not motivated exclusively or primarily by money but you are probably right that for the majority the money comes first, second and last.

{Ed025's Note - it really does im afraid mate..

Somebody promised me a giant pay packet and I'd be on the first plane. It doesn't make a player evil to leave for pastures new when big money is on the table. This is why it's important players like our front three, VVD, Alisson etc. Understand that we can fight for titles on multiple fronts and pay them competitively with the other billionaires. Otherwise why wouldn't they leave? Who could truly blame them? We whine about it as fans but know in our hearts we would likely do the same. Footballers don't last for ever and are only in their prime a small portion of that time. You have to get what you can. Loyalty is fine in theory, and I can imagine none of our highest earners are angling for the exit door just yet, but if someone for ex. Barcelona says we are going to pay you what Messi makes and groom you to be his replacement how is he supposed to turn that down?

{Ed025's Note - that depends on how much money you have..or want..or need amerigo, i will have the run of the mill player in a mid table side who is being courted by a big fish and doubling his wages mate, but these so called superstars like neymar who jump ship for mega bucks make me sick...how much money do they need?, its greed, downright avarice and in these days of austerity, foodbanks and people on zero hours contracts...they should be ashamed of themselves..
