Lots coming out today from both Fekir and his ex agent. Certainly seems that the theory the move fell apart was because Lfc messed Lyon around is afair way off the mark.

The agent said a foriegn pseudo-Representative as for negotiations to begin from the start at The moment of signing, so I'm guessing this was the reason why.

Ed2 said at the time that we dicked Lyon about at the 11th hour.

Well Fekir certainly shows no ill feelings and says our dealings with him were excellent and that we showed that we really wanted him. Straight from the horses mouth, good enough for me.

What Fekir is saying makes no sense. On one hand he's complaining about the lies about his injury and his family (presumably the "pseudo-representative" is his family), and on the other, he's saying he has no ill feelings towards Liverpool. Something's not right.

Since when is anything said to the media for public consumption, 100% on the level? I rarely worry too much about content. Rather I always wonder about the timing, and why a story comes out when it does.

Cant get anymore on the level than the horses mouth.

As far as I am concerned, of the 3 sources it’s only ed2 who has no dog in that particular fight, so I’m most inclined to believe him. I doubt he wastes his time coming on here to tell lies. As my old history teacher would say, you need to apply the 5 W’s when considering a sources info; who, what, when, where and why.

And there was me thinking the actual player himself, who was actually in the room and involved in the deal would be a fairly good source of information. How silly of me.

{Ed001's Note - no because he still wants a move to Liverpool, so he has motivation to say good things about the club. You have to know people's angles before you can know how much faith you can have in what they say. His agent certainly can't be trusted and he was sacked because of what he said to the media, but he was also in the room and involved in the deal. So, by your ridiculous standards, he would be a fairly good source of information. Clearly he isn't as, like Fekir, he has a reason to give his version of the facts to present himself in the best light. The very fact Fekir says he doesn't know why the deal fell through tells you he is not exactly the best person to listen to, as he is either completely out of the loop or lying.}

Surely he knows there's little or no chance of a move to Liverpool now.

{Ed001's Note - who knows what the future holds? If he plays well in Betis anything could happen. It was only the price that was the issue last time.}

If it was the price stopping us looking at him again we'd have moved for him this summer when he went to Spain for €20M.

Little Naby. how is it so hard for you to grasp? The price was a sticking point in the 2018 transfer window. A year later clearly our transfer targets will have changed, especially after a season in which we were one point from winning the Prem and then winning the CL.

Also you do realise prices are massively inflated to prem teams, especially the top 6?. Just because Betis paid that, doesn't mean the fee would be anywhere near the same if it were us buying the player.

What am i not grasping? everything you've just said i already realised but thanks for telling me what i already knew. its all irrelevant anyway, he'll never play for us but at least the failed transfer can't be all blamed on the club now.

Smallsy, if we offered 1 million more than betis, he would have come to us. Simple.

They wouldn't go "Oh betis are paying £20 mil so you have to pay 40, or we will sell to betis".

“If it was the price stopping us looking at him again we'd have moved for him this summer when he went to Spain for €20M”

The 20m is irrelevant. To us it would more likely to have been 35m. That’s if Lyon even entertained the idea of doing business with us after pulling out last time round. Should we need an AM next season and he has an outstanding season with Betis. what’s to say we wouldn’t declare interest again? It’s only really age that’s against him, but he’s only 25/ 26 I think.

You’re basically saying “I think I’ll believe Fekir as it’s straight from the horses mouth”. His words probably hold as much water as Harry Kane saying “I’ve never dived in my life”. Players and managers rarely give the full picture when speaking to the press/ public.

Ok Smallsy, Fekir will be our "marquee"signing next summer. And i'll score the winner for us in the FA Cup final.

Exactly Ed001. And as I said in my earlier reply. Why is this story coming out now when he has just joined a new club and yet the matter of discussion is over a year old? Clearly he sees Betis as a temporary stop on the way to greener pastures, and he's freshening up his "path" a little bit in the public's eye to be able to take the next step. And you're very right about the sweet words for LFC. Nobody else in their right mind would look so kindly on a club that changed it's mind at the last minute, and then which results on his value plummeting to one third of what it was earlier. It's just standard good PR, what he is doing. And certainly not 100% on the level.

Smallsy1984, I legit thought you were going to say "his words probably hold as much water as Harry Kane's mouth" 🙈😅.
