The issue again has been muted, Stevie G to take over if and when JK decides to leave, Whilst it may seem a match made in heaven there is no real reason to think it could be so. Cast your mind back to Graham Souness, he had all the attributes not unlike SG but was not particularly successful. Surely someone who should be considered is some one who is totally aware of JK's methods and seeing how successful these have been his present right hand man something could be the man. Who knows it could be the start of another boot room legacy. Just a thought.

Imo Lijnders should be the one hopefully alongside Krawietz if he doesn't retire with Klopp.

I think we are jumping the gun here!

He is contracted till 2022, and we must assume that Klopp Won’t leave until then, that is a LONG time, lots can change by then.

I am sure the club have plans, but let’s just enjoy our time with big Kloppo!

I love the idea of a return to the boot room days but are we confident that Pep can make that step up from a number 2 to being the boss? I’m not doubting his football brain at all, but the modern day manager has to have so many different skill sets and the fans have to have absolute patients. I’m just not sure how much of a gamble that would be. I know he was sacked for not getting promoted in his time as a manager, but I’ve no idea if he was very harshly done by (to be fair firing a manager after a year is most often a bit harsh) but is he Liverpool manager material, or is he an outstanding coach? They aren’t necessarily the same thing.

I don't know who Liverpool will appoint when Klopp finally leaves, but I imagine there will be several high profile managers interested.
As for Gerrard, he has done nothing whatsoever to suggest he should become manager at Liverpool. There are plenty of decent players who have failed miserably at management. A good player is not necessarily a good manager.

Lets hope they scout the next manager as well as they scout for players.
I don't think it would be a good idea to appoint Stevie as he would have too much of a connection to the club which can cloud judgment, unless he proves to be an outstanding manager in the mean time.

Gerrard this far has done nothing to suggest he should be our manager. It does not strike me as coincidence that when we hire proven league winners (Rafa, Dalglish, Klopp) we have had success in the way of winning trophies, whereas others have been pretenders despite their best efforts. If Gerrard can put Rangers consistently on top in Scotland, get them into CL group stages and playing good footy againts some top European sides like Celtic were a few years back, then that might be enough to sway me. Can’t see that happening in the next 3 years though!

this is getting really tedious now. it's amateur hour, and unnecessary to rationalize why stevie wouldn't be suitable based on a litany of former ex-pros who have failed as managers. also, it's a bit deficit focused to just jump straight to the negative bits. anyways, it's ages away. shouldn't ya be looking no further than the next transfer window in january to get ya blood boiling haha.

Yeah, let's talk about how many goals Glatzel will score in 3 years time when he takes over from Firmino.

My only concern here is what the message from JK - which probably got lost in translation - will do to the players mindset. I'm sure we all recall that Man United had a bit of a blip when Fergie announced he was leaving well in advance, something he then went back on anyway.

If it is someone who needs lots of patients maybe we should go for that continental chap Dr Oetker?

Come on guys, let's not be talking about this consistently until 2022. Let's enjoy the ride we are on with Klopp now. Plenty of time to pick up this conversation at a later date. Let's not worry about it too much.

To be fair this klopp interview has been interpreted out of context. He simply mentioned that when he does eventually leave us that he wants to take some time off instead of jumping into another job. Never mentioned any timeline or plans of when that will be. He has 3 years left which is a long time really and a lot can change in that time, if we start dominating with repeated success I'm sure he won't walk away from that but also who knows he could see a huge downturn like he had in BVB and not even see out his contract.

Let's take a step back from pointless future speculation as any managers stock can be much higher or lower in a few years than currently.

That sort of sentimental decision-making is what has got United stuck with absolute mediocrity in Solskjaer. I am hoping, when the time comes, that the club are smart enough to make a decision based on rational thinking and coaching quality, not on emotion and nostalgia.

I wouldn't rule out Stevie the opportunity solely because he's a club legend, but we're talking about three years down the line. That's a deadline that he can work towards if he really sees himself as following on from Klopp.

His plan should be along the lines of: dethrone Celtic this season; move to a Championship team for next season and get them promoted; then manage to keep them up while displaying attractive and pressing football in the same style that Liverpool currently play.

If he could achieve those things in 3 years, I'd be happy with him to be Klopp's replacement. He needs to look at Liverpool's style of play and implement that as his own, and tweak how he sees necessary. It will be Mr. Edwards' choice if he's still at the club and he would no doubt be looking for managers who play a similar style and have made a success of it. Surely (IF he even wants to succeed Klopp), should be the blueprint he should be working towards. If he doesn't do this, or would want to implement a different style of football, then he shouldn't get the job, quite simply. But I'm not purely against it as long as he shows over the next three years that he's the perfect replacement.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think 3 years is long enough epic....to see if he smiles.. :)

Ed025, I agree that for Stevie it's a short amount of time, but I think that what I'm saying is correct that if he ever wants to be Liverpool manager, he should adopt Liverpool's playing style with his own teams and show that he can be successful doing so.

I think it's quite clear that when Klopp is replaced, it will be with a manager that adopts the same style. If that's Gerrard, I don't know, but the football director will want to keep the style the same, that's for sure. What I was really getting at is IF he wants to be Liverpool manager one day, that's what he should be working towards.

I really have no preference to who the replacement is. I just have a good idea that that's what the director of football will be looking for. If Gerrard isn't doing that with his own teams, he won't be in contention.

{Ed025's Note - hes miles of even being considered as an option epic, good players dont always make good managers mate as has been said on here many times, also he has the charisma of a coconut which means hes hardly likely to live up to klopps man management skills..

16.) 30 Aug 2019
30 Aug 2019 20:51:02
Ed025. Who has the same charisma? Should we appoint Barry Fry?

I'm not pioneering for Gerrard to be Liverpool manager whatsoever. I'm just saying that if he wants to, that's the blueprint he needs to follow. And I said in my last post, three years is an awfully short time for him to turn into the perfect Klopp replacement.

Actually, if I had anything to do with it (which I don't), I'd take a completely different approach to when Liverpool wouldn't let Dalglish have a sabbatical and let Linders be caretaker manager for a year and Klopp can come back refreshed. But I guess that's an ideal world and who says that his style will even work in 4 years time?

{Ed025's Note - sam allardyce and david moyes are looking for new clubs epic, never say never they say mate.. :)

Where is Sami hyypia these days? Is he currently managing? He always struck me as a former player who looks like he has the strenghts to make a good coach and i remember a few years back he was doing decent starting off but no clue where he's at now. ?

If the next 3 seasons go well, and Klopp and Edwards want Pep Ljinders to take over, the job will be handed to him on a silver platter. I doubt anyone else will even be considered unless he turns it down.

But 3 years hence is a long time. So this is all speculation.
