Rumour has it Herbie Kane is staying and will be staying in the first team squad, is there any truth in this?

I guess it's a " " scenario. Klopp wants him for the League Cup but Kane is still hoping to go out on loan for his development.

I can't blame the lad. If we go far in the League cup, he'll lose his place to more experienced squad players and if we don't, he's stayed to play 1 or 2 games.

Best of luck to the lad, whichever road he takes.

Would make no little sense to not let him move on, it seems near impossible to think he has any hope of getting anywhere near our first team now or in the future, he's not that young anymore either he should be looking to move on.

Is he good? And how is his style of play?

How are we classing 20 year olds as "not that young"?! Sheer madness!

I had the pleasure of watching the lad all season at Donny rovers and he was fantastic! He's a midfielder who likes to dictate the tempo but also chipped in with a few goals. By no means am I saying he's ready for the first team but it sounds like a lot of nonsense saying a 20 yo is 'not that young' and to move him on 😂.

I don't get it either. Why are players expected to be top level so young? If they aren't ready by 23 they are written off? Makes no sense to me, especially looking at how many players over the years we have bought in deemed ready and or good enough for our first team, who have turned out to be poor. Ok it has improved significantly recently, but how many of the roles filled by those signings could have just been given to one of our graduates.

He played in the Number 6 role for the U23s so potentially there could be a place for him as backup to Fabinho.

Herbie Kane is not good enough for the first team in my opinion. I know he was rated by Stevie but he has turned into a championship player. (in my opinion)

And what is (your opinion) based upon irishscouser2?

Unless you followed Doncaster the whole year last year and have attended Liverpool training since then you cannot make such an assumption.

Playing well for Doncaster means nothing, he has never looked good enough for the first team.

People might think he's old cos he's the oldest looking 20 year old in football.

How does playing well for Doncaster as a 19 year old mean nothing, their fans and coach raves about him playing.

But to be fair once you are 20 you cannot improve ever you are stuck at that level for life.

“He has never looked good enough for the first team” I wil say It again he’s back from a loan as a 19 year old and the club haven’t loaned him out as want to have him in and around the FIRST team squad.

He may never make it at Liverpool but to write him off now is just plain odd.

{Ed025's Note - yeah...and dirty boots wont clean themselves SR..

We say the same thing almost every year about a youngster, minus Brewster and TAA who from early on you could see they were better than most. Strange I don't remember them being loaned out.99% of our youngsters are decent players and will do well in the lower leagues, not Liverpool.

well ed, you must know, if the boot room comes back the golden years are upon us.

I am a fan of Kane, probably won't make it at liverpool but i dislike people discarding young players as "deadwood"

{Ed001's Note - we will only know if he is good enough when he gets a chance.}

I've said on another thread (regarding the next recruit from the academy after TAA and Brewster) . The fact that Klopp wants him to stay with the first team squad then you never know.

Kane could be the next TAA/ Brewster. At this stage Klopp and the coaching staff know more than we do as they see him in training, and we are just speculating, based on the fact he was at Doncaster last season whether he is or isn't good enough.

My apologies when I stated he's not that young I never knew he was only 20, I always had the thought he was around the 23 mark, he certainly doesn't look that young.

It's the fact he plays in a position where he's currently 8 or 9th in pecking order is the realistic issue that I see his Liverpool future being unlikely.
Never intended to sound like I was completely writing the lad off.

9th in the pecking order, who’s ahead of him, you including gerrard and alonso.

The other Kane, oh yer Harry! Didn’t he get started late too, not everyone develops the same. Might take a few more years so all we care about is talent and him taking chances when they arrive.

20 is nothing, still got 15 years decent football in him maybe more!

Southern red. fabinho hendo wiji Milner keita OX lallana Jones. That's 8 players who are clearly considered ahead of Kane currently.

Do you really see him competing for first team? Playing in the u23s might benefit him who knows but my point is that it's unlikely he can break into this team and a move would be surely his best career option. Would you not agree?
