This is literally a rumour. I'm just passing on so please don't shoot me!

Apparently Liverpool are very close to matching the asking price for Nicolas Pepe.

Probably total BS.

1.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 11:36:11
He looks a player but I do only see this happening if the club see Salah moving on sometime soon. Personally think it is nothing, more likely we will go after someone like Maxwel Cornet who's been mentioned by the eds. Time will tell, think we need a few more outs from squad / loan returns before we see ins start coming in.

2.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 11:36:40
It has come from L'Equipe who my understanding is pretty reliable when it comes to news from France.

If he does sign i do find it hard to see where he will fit in the system tho.

80m euros for a bench player can not see us spending that unless someone is leaving or we change the system completely.

3.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 11:38:11
Nah, no way mate. Ed’s has already said we are not looking to spend vast sums of money on any players who are deemed as back up. Front 3 pick themselves with Origi Brewster Shaqiri and Ox as back up.

4.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 12:28:38
L'equipe not all that reliable.

5.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 12:41:14
Yeah why would Liverpool target people who aren't good enough for the first team eh? if this season has proved anything its that the bench needs to be strong, so Salah having to leave or we will only buy if one of the front are leaving is bs, we need a squad capable of competing not just a team.

6.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 12:43:57
my be he is seen as matching the front 3 we have and it is more off a rotation. with the others seen as back up, am sure with the league, champions league and the other cups there is enough games for all 4 to play. would only mean they would all not start about 9 league games each a season. And just because there not starting them games does not mean they won't play.

7.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:01:10
It’s not bs Lancaster Red it’s reality mate and exactly were we are at. We won’t and can’t spend crazy money every window without players leaving.

8.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:03:36
Man we won't sign any rotation or back up player for 80.000.000 €!

9.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:14:50
The Firm on Twitter, yes THAT guy, is claiming we have made an offer of £68m.

Waiting on an Ed002 come back containing the words 'Bolton, 'kid', 'no contact'and 'fat'.

{Ed002's Note - Did the Fat Kid from Bolton tell you in which order De Ligt, Werner, Pepe, Dybala, Lemar and most of the Lyon team will be arriving this summer?}

10.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:23:39
Nicolas Pepe is a quality attacking player, to challenge for top honours the club needs like for like replacements, this is why Man City are the best in the country, Sterling can be replaced by Sanè, Silva with Mahrez. Shaqiri and Origi are decent backup players but not top end, would we challenge for the Premier League if Manè or Salah were injured for 6 months?

{Ed002's Note - So Pepe will be signed to cover for Salah or Mane being injured for 6 months? Sane, Mahrez and others are looking to leave Manchester City for lack of game time.}

11.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:27:35
The 80M price tag is eye popping, but I don't buy into all this stuff about the team not wanting to spend a little this summer.

Klopp wants to deploy a 4-2-3-1 long-term. It's how we were lining up quite a bit this past season but seemed to have and pulled off of that because we lacked depth off the bench in a lot of key positions in that lineup. There absolutely is room for Pepe in the squad though if the plan is indeed to line up that way. Salah plays in front of Firmino, and Pepe plays outside. It feels like Shaq may move on too, and be replaced with someone that can be more reliable on the press that will provide cover on the wings off the bench.

{Ed002's Note - If Klopp wants a 4-2-3-1 he has been buying the wrong players.}

12.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:38:44
Can we leave this thread as it is please. Pèpè is not happening. The Fat kid from Bolton who ever he is is obviously talking BS yet again.

Let’s move on.

13.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 13:39:37
Ed002, you forgot the words 'no contact'.

I lose track but, I think, so far he had only confirmed Lemar, Werner and De Ligt signing, in that order.

We all know it is BS until confirmed on here.

14.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 14:08:37
Ed002, I respectfully disagree with that. I can't really figure out what he wants to do with Keita, but besides that he's targeted highly adaptable players that have the versatility to play many different ways in different positions and different formations. I believe we lined up in the 4-2-3-1 like 10 times last year and never lost a game, which was easily our second most common formation. Shaqiri's struggles in the press along with our limited depth in the attacking positions were a major weakness though, and we had to go back to the 4-3-3 after the new year otherwise those weaknesses would have caught up with us.

It seems like it's Klopp's goal to deploy the 4-2-3-1 the majority of the time once we have the lineup for it.

*nonsense FM bull and abuse deleted*

{Ed001's Note - all you have done is post personal attacks against editors on the site. You are no longer welcome, take your clueless Football Manager nonsense somewhere else.}

16.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 15:25:31
To compete with city you need options in the squad that can offer genuine competition for places. City have this and is why not only can they compete in all competitions but when you're struggling to break a Leicester city or West Ham team down you can bring on real game changers. Seems you can't win there's too many games for players to stay fit and compete but buying quality to help with the work load and compete for a starting place must mean someone's moving on. Sturridge is gone Moreno gone but we already have a left back but that position is ok tohabe cover for? I'd prefer klopp to look at investing in youth as cover but if the club bought quality to push the club on it's the logical next step. Rotation is an important part of football these days. So if they sign Pepe I wouldn't be surprised because there's champions league premier league fa cup league cup world club cup super cup and charity shield games to compete in. Having options is a good thing.

17.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 16:27:48
Yes but that is what has happened with our squad. Klopp has bought players and this has made the squad try harder. No-one saw Wijnaldum being an integral part of our season. Same with Matip and Origi.

18.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 17:43:36
Ed’s - do you think it’s possible we may buy an attacker and play Firmino as attacking midfielder?

{Ed001's Note - why would we move our most important player from his best position?}

19.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 17:50:33
Football manager is very outdated anyway. Most teams have one system for attacking, one for transition and one for defending so the tactical shape can change a lot in one match yet in that game you pick one formation and win everything hmm ok 👍.

20.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 20:26:31
" Our most important player" no where near the top 5. I know you say these things for responses but that is insulting to much better players than Firmino. He has only had one good season at LFC and in his worst season we won the champions league and Firmino didn't play in the semi finals or the final.

Firmino has been a passenger all season.

{Ed001's Note - I am not going to waste my time on such a clueless post as yours. You really do make the most idiotic posts in your attempts to disagree with everything I say. Either that or you are absolutely clueless about the game because he is the key to our play according to people who actually matter, such as the coaching staff at the club. You really are just trolling with your posts and I can't be arsed with you any more. You have obviously had to move on from your constant denigration of Henderson to find a new target for you to be an arse to. Just do us all a favour and don't bother. Just like when you constantly slagged off the captain, it just shows how little understanding of the game you actually have.}

21.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 20:38:00
I think we need more goals from midfield. Not necessarily another forward.

22.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 22:05:49
Idiotic comment mark I guess you never read the analytical article about how our players are picked to compliment each other and that most of salahs goals etc are because he plays with Bobby. Do you think it would be the same if we had Kane? Not at all.

23.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 22:55:16
so you think Firmino and Henderson had good seasons?

Firmino was poor

Henderson was ok and then brilliant for the last 10 games. Commentator said when Henderson scored v Southampton welcome to the Party pal.

You just have biased opinions on players you like. If you think Firmino was a key player this season you are totally biased and deluded. He didn't play in our most important games.

Van Dyke
Robbo
Allison
Gini
Trent
Mane
Salah

Even Matip (the player you make jokes about) had a better season than Firmino. You suggested Firmino be dropped earlier in the season.
All these players over the season were better than Firmino and Hendo but you don't give Robbo for example anywhere near as much credit yet he had a far better season.

24.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 22:59:48
I agree with 80% of what you say but when you make stupid statements like Firmino is our most important player of course I disagree because it is complete and utter crap.

You just never like to be wrong but that statement is false. We won the CL without Firmino we would not have won the cl without

Van Dyke
Mane
or Allison.

25.) 06 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 23:07:55
Lercy that is just rubbish. Salah got 25 goals for Roma the season before he came? Mane, Salh Kane would get 15 extra goals IMO. Only LFC fans think otherwise. If Mane or Salah went to Barcelona or Madrid both would get 30 goals.

26.) 07 Jun 2019
06 Jun 2019 23:58:38
Markp, a couple of weeks ago you were saying klopp should be sacked.

You need to relearn the game of soccer. Somewhere along the line you got lost.

{Ed001's Note - he is just a troll and I wouldn't waste my time on his moronic slagfests of Liverpool players. His posts should be treated as those of a 5 year old who has never seen a game of football as that is his level of understanding of it. He has clearly never learnt it and all he does is troll my comments with stupidity.}

27.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 00:01:37
Flidby wjnuldum has been underrated at Liverpool always been a quality player since he has arrived. He was quality at Newcastle and think he won the Johan cruyff award they have in the Dutch league as well. Like with Henderson managers ask players to do specific jobs on the pitch which often means them sacrificing attacking instinct. Fabinho coming in has really released these players to be able to perform a more attacking role. He is a bit of an unsung hero this year as VVD and Alison getting all the defensive plaudits (and rightly so) . Matip was quality when he joined (for free) he's a good player has his wobbles but he's not as prone to howlers as lovren is. Gomez was excellent with vvd and if he makes a mistake he has the pace to recover. Anyway point is no surprise they've done well. Origi is a shocker I didn't see that coming but he has put in some decent performances and got some crucial goals. Lad deserves chance to prove himself. But I still believe as a squad we are short up top.

28.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 00:22:47
"we would not have won the cl without "

How can you forget Origi , he took us to the final and then won it for us .

Beside that, I agree with you, Firmino did n't have a good season, for whatever reason, but you can't deny when he is fit and well lake last year, he can be a very good player, creative and hard working . Last year he made most of the space that Salah used to score his 30+ goals.

29.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 06:25:01
Just because Firmino didn't have the best season, doesn't mean he's not our most important player. The space he creates, the defending from the front, the interaction with Mane and Salah, the unpredictability of his passing and movement.
He didn't play in our biggest games but i would suggest we would have stuffed Spurs by a greater margin if we had a fully fit Bobby playing the full 90.

30.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 07:21:53
Its better to get a replacement in before any player leaves, Andy Carroll would have cost a lot less before Torres deal happened and I am sure Ajax would have stung us another 10m for Suarez if Torres had handed his transfer request in at the start of the window. Apart from Bobby the other 2 can play any of the front 3 positions so having Pepe allows Bobby and other a rest should they need one.

31.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 08:22:51
And dzeko was the striker mark. Another one who’d compliment Salahs style of play.

32.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 07:40:33
Thats bit of a insult to a 5 year old ed001 lol, mark only seem to go by players who score goals, and not the whole team, if you watch bobby closely you will see how he pulls defenders out to open up space for salah and mane, he the most unselfish player there is, that's why he don't get the praise he should.

33.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 11:04:06
I thought Lemar had signed on the 1st of July last summer 🤔.

34.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 11:06:30
Sure I've seen the asking price for Pepe closer to 40 than 80? i don't get why people are scared of Liverpool have strength in depth and rotating the squad. Boggles my mind.

35.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 12:35:18
Markp08
Do you ever imagine that Klopp asks players to play a specific way for the benefit of the team? Do you think that Henderson might just have been deployed as a defensive midfielder for most of his games under klopp but was then asked to get in the box towards the end of the season? Do you think that firmino is asked to do a job too? Also I like the idea that any player in a team that scored 97 points lost 1 game and won the champions league had a bad season.

36.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 13:11:23
This is amazing, i've never seen anyone say Bobby has been rubbish. The guys play opens up so much space for the others to get forwards, the only striker who plays like him is the one at wolves, You lose Bobby you lose a very integral part of the team for the style of football we play.

Not sure if you watch any of the games on tv or have ever been to Anfield but the guy is an absolute terror to defend against.

meh infact this is like talking to 6 year old man utd fan who says but he doesn't score more than blaaa blaaa.

37.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 13:12:37
I said Klopp should be sacked - are you mad Davey? I think over the last few years he has been awesome and the signings have been the best in the world. Klopp is more important than any player.

When a player has a great season like Firmino 2017/ 18 I say brilliant well played. But when he has a poor season I say that as well. Not great, great, great when it's untrue.

I agree with that Roy

He just isn't the most important for me Virgil.
Allison
Van Dyke
Mane etc
all far more important but just my opinion.

38.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 13:27:00
Salah, Mane and Firmino are Key Players wich means they are going to play all posible games.
Bench Players like Shaqiri, Origi and Sturridge will play only when is needed.
Nicolas Pepe won’t come here to play when is needed he will go to a club were he can play all posible games and you don’t spend 70~80m in a player who is not going to play all posible games better to save the money and give reserves or youth players the chance and if needed buy a cheap or low cost squad player.

39.) 07 Jun 2019
07 Jun 2019 17:32:28
I have no qualms with anyone who thinks Firmino isn’t our most important player as I personally agree but some of the criticism of him seems harsh mark. Perhaps it’s down to the anger of going back and forward with the Ed’s but he’s still a great player and important to the team, even if we disagree if he’s the most or not.

For what it’s worth, I love him and I do believe when he’s on form, our front 3 click and are unstoppable. However we’ve shown a side of our game this season where if he doesn’t (and he wasn’t for a lot of periods), we have other players to step up. In doing so, we were able to win the CL.

In terms of importance, I agree VVD and Allison are the most important for me. Then it’s more debatable. my preference is salah, mane and the full backs (who are critical as they provide creativity that our midfield can lack at times) .

On the original point. I’d love Pepe! Think he would fit in well.

40.) 08 Jun 2019
08 Jun 2019 00:03:27
Hendo had a long world cup. Tjats why he wasnt starting games at the start of the season. But when he started he was brilliant. I just don't understand the hendo haters.

He just lifted the European f#@#@#g Cup for god sake.

41.) 08 Jun 2019
08 Jun 2019 00:13:29
And firmino is absolutely brilliant. He is one of the first n mes on the team sheet. Our CF didn't reach 20 goals but he got a few. But our style is different, football has changed. Its why our wingers are winning golden boots every year. He is irreplaceable. We just let DS go so i guess we need some more cover for the forwards.

But, klopp seems to like the 4231. And i think he sees that as our way to win the league. So we need another forward.

I just don't understand people who don't see how important Henderson and firmino are.

I also think salah has been a bit greedy this season (can't blame him after last season, everything he hit went in) and i think that is why firmino saw less of the ball in our counter attacks. Bobby should be the guy you pass to to recieve a return flick that puts you in on goal.

42.) 10 Jun 2019
10 Jun 2019 01:20:31
People who don't rate firmino have very little real understanding. Those views can only be taken of someone who only ever watches the balls position for 90 mins. Bobby struggled for the period he played in the 10 role. It didn't suit him, he looked lost for a few weeks and some have only judged him on that. Mark you say he never played in the big important games as an example, rubbish. When he went off early against United we lost all of our attacking rhythm, Barcelona at the nou camp we played well until the final third without him playing. We couldn't create anything against Everton either in goalless draw. Our midfield got slated for the United and Everton games, firmino only played a handful of minutes and was a big reason we struggled. 1st half away to Porto we were awful. He came on HT and changed whole team performance, came on at Burnley got a goal and assist and turned the game, came on PSG and got late winner, he played poor in the final and looked unfit, a big reason I think we played badly. Barca, United, Everton. 3 big games he missed, 3 games we failed to score. He is a hugely important player and there's no doubt about that.
