ED002/ ED001

Reports are that Liverpool will compete in the FIFA Club world cup in December in Qatar. are these articles true?
As previously it was suggested it wouldn't occur for another few years.

I can see this having a negative impact on our season and the previous prize money for winning this tournament was $5mill.
Doesn't seem like a tournament that you would want to play in which clashes with the season and could cost the club from winning the title, what's your knowledge of this and does the club have to attend?

Much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - the club do not seem to want to play in it but look to have no option. FIFA are indeed intending to hold it in Qatar this year.}

Send the under 21s.

ED001 what happens if the cub weren't to attend?

Just a fine?

{Ed001's Note - FIFA have the power to ban clubs.}

We would be fined more than we could afford too be apparently if we jibbed it .

Why don’t we just go an treat it like a training camp? Only two games, we can bring enough players to have one game each.

I read somewhere that Liverpool would get somewhere in the region of £50mil for taking part. So this alone would be better than the $5mil for winning. Is this true Ed’s?

{Ed001's Note - I doubt the money has been decided yet.}

why would n't the club attend, I don't think there are any intentions of the club not to attend, If its schedule issue, send most of the under 21s . there are no obligations to which squad you send . and like RedKieran said its financially rewarding . don't know the exact figure but its considerable.

{Ed001's Note - there are obligations. There are also issues of scheduling, no one giving a toss about the tournament, where it is being held just to start with. And you have no idea if it is financially rewarding, certainly the previous editions were not exactly helpful for Madrid who won the last 3.}

If we did go and play in it Ed could we not just send the U21 and fringe players, or would that be classed as unfair?

{Ed001's Note - no we couldn't.}

Genuine question why you are not happy with Doha, considering the alternative is either Dubia which is more or less the same or Yokohama which much further longer journey, was there 14 years ago in 2005, was very cold and not very well organised .
What will be interesting if a Saudi or UAE club wins the asian cup.

{Ed001's Note - Dubai is nothing like it and not the alternative anyway. Yokohama was not an alternative either.}

I believe it is the 2021 edition which they plan to give participants £50 mil. This year's edition is considerably less however champions of the world sounds very appealing and the prize money should stil be more than Caraboa Cup for a fraction of the amount of games.

The reported prize money for winning the final of the CL was £16m or something like that. Obviously it stacks with the money earned for making the final and semi and quarters etc so overall Liverpool would have won a lot more. So I somehow doubt the prize money for the club World Cup would be anywhere near 50m.

Isn't a winter break of some sort being introduced to England this year? If so and with this comp due in mid December, shouldn't be much of an issue, in fact be a good chance for klopp to maybe experiment or try out some ideas he might be thinking of mid season. Players may benefit from a couple of games and others can be rested if needed. We're the champions of Europe, these games are included with that honour.

Many posters cry out for Brewster Hoever Lewis etc to gain experience in domestic cups. This is a good potential opportunity to give them playing time too.
