I've just read that Alberto Moreno is claiming that he has been offered a new contract at Liverpool but he hasn't decided whether to sign it yet. Does anyone know anything about this? Eds? Surely if he has been offered a contact, it would be on severely lower wages. He's only played twice all season.

{Ed002's Note - The wages are of no relevance but the role is to provide cover. The supporters seem to be struggling with all of these €100M players they want as squad players are not viable. If he agrees a new contract fine, else he will be replaced by someone else who will only likely play a handful of games a year.}

Ed002, thank you so much for your input. I was shocked when I read the article, but I guess it's just because I'd imagined he'd be one of the first out of the door in the summer. Signing players of any quality who are prepared to be backup must be very difficult and any potential incoming left back will be very aware that Robertson will be very hard to shift. I hope you're enjoying the holiday and have a great new year. Thanks again.

{Ed002's Note - Actually I do expect he will go and Liverpool will look elsewhere, perhaps to the likes of Lewis, Gallacher and any other youngsters who are looking like possibilities. Else, the youngsters will know that without a roadmap they stand little chance. There was another kid whose nmame I cannot recall.}

{Ed002's Note - That's the one, thanks.}

Funny reading this conversation about moreno and robertson. This time a year and a half ago never would i think we have got the best left back in europe.

I read a different article that didn’t mention anything about a new deal.

More that he was tiered of the cold weather he was unhappy with his treatment and considered moving to Spain. It stated he was free to talk to clubs in January and free to leave in summer.

I can’t see us offering him one as we have a few good youngsters who can play the role of cover for much cheaper.

We have several academy players like Lewis and gallacher that can step up to replace Moreno. No point wasting money on a backup lb just to play around 7-8 games a season coz Robbo is a machine.

Jonesred, he's quoted as saying he was offered a new contract.

{Ed001's Note - he has been offered one.}

Juanma is 20 (? ) but injuries have set back his progress. The others are only 19 so we shouldn't be expecting too much from them.

Honest question for Ed0001:

WHY?
Does Klopp's have no faith in any of the youth left backs? Giving Moreno a new contract is just waste of money for a player who contributes zilch and plays 5 times a season. The money, game time and senior football exposure could be used to groom one of the youth players to play second fiddle to Robbo.

{Ed001's Note - the plan is to free up any seen as close from the youth team to go out on loan.}

Never understood the situation with Moreno. It was obvious a long time ago he was not good enough to be our starting fullback.

So why the snarky interviews now, four and a half years later?

Why was the situation not explained to him a long time, and Moreno not moved on if he didn't like it?

{Ed025's Note - im guessing that nobody would pay the wages he is getting at liverpool R67, he is doing exactly what we all would do mate..

I think Moreno has done no harm to his stock, he has not been disruptive, worked hard in training and this time last year was our number one left back. I think he will move on in the summer and hope he gets himself a nice new club to play for and plenty of playing time.

Moreno is a very well liked character around the dressing room apparently and has helped a number of new players settle in.

I do find it slightly odd that we’ve offered him a new contract though.

But what do I know.

If he goes, then let’s have a youngster step up to cover Robertson. Lewis or Arroyo could make that step.

We already have 3 players that can cover left back without Moreno.
Milner
Gomez
Clyne
We definitely don't need to sign a replacement.

{Ed002's Note - Plus some well thought of youngsters.}

Moreno took unbelievable stick from so called fans as a youngster. Some of you have very short memories. The lad has developed well so pay him his dues and allow him the minutes when possible. On another note I mentioned a while ago an update on the ox and regarding his fitness and physio parent. I've heard today that's klopps update is conservative and could b available earlier.

If moreno has been offered a contract then I feel lile it'd be because the club feel there are few other viable options out there to bring in as a backup and that the academy players need playing time either thru U23 or on loan.

I read at the weekend that Van Sarn holt may be available
I would definitely take him as a back up as he scores a lot of goals.
We used to have two grest scoring full backs in Lawler and Lyndsay.

{Ed002's Note - Why would Van Aanholt move to simply provide cover? He has a club chasing him who want him as a starter and if they up their bid they might well get him.}
