With us playing this new style and formation could we not play the front 3 as last season and play Shaqiri in the number 10 role, bobby not looking the same player there and Mo runs from right to centre when bobby drops in the hole and pulls the defenders out is really missing this season.

I was thinking the same, but there doesn't seem to be the same intensity off the ball with the press etc, which think I understand from this site is intentional so our players don't burn out? Arguably, it feels like city (in particular) still have more quality depth in each position allowing them to rotate more and retain a level of intensity. To qualify that, generally if our front 3 are fit in a competitive game they end to play, where as city interchange between 2 options for each position and you can't easily predict the selection. I would imagine at least Bobby would likely have been rested/ rotated if Klippers trusted Sturridge/ others, although that might change after the mighty Divock threatens to live up to his potential.! Or i'd guess in the summer window if funds allow and a few leave?

I am a bit bemused by this tactical change as it does seem to have blunted our edge a little. I get the reduced intensity thing but I'm sure we can still achieve that by having our front 3 playing in the same formation as last season. But what do I know, and why am I complaining when we're doing very well at the moment in the league.

For me Firmino is still the vital cog with the movement he does without the ball being the most important part of our offense.
Even if Salah has really improved he's off-the-ball game, we still cannot afford to drop Firmino in big games.
Mid 3 of Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri is what i expect to happen more and more.

I for one think Bobby is are best player just pure class, but I think this formation and role is nullifying both him and Salah a bit as well. I do think there is something missing from are midfield 3 and Klopp is trying to get the mix right and with are back 4 and supper goalkeepers who is the best keeper I have seen play for Liverpool since I started watching them in the early 80s when Grobbelaar was number 1 so seen few goalkeepers. So 1-0 seems to be enough to win a game for the first time since Rafa was here so it will be interesting to see us against where we could do with a few goals early on because I know 1-0 will do but no one will won't it to be 1-0 with 10ins to go.
sorry for the rant YNWA.

Remember why Bobby is playing there? Fekir was our top target and was set to play behind the front 3. He is not only highly skilful, great at set pieces and scores heaps but also great at winning back possession. Once that transfer got stalled JK had to change plans. Throw in Nab and Fab taking longer than anticipated to settle, Ox being injured and the front 3 playing at about 30% of last seasons form and there you have the reasons why we look a bit toothless compared to last season. Of course we'll be looking for someone like Fekir. (or maybe him at a reduced price? ) to play that role that has been ear-marked for the new set up. When that happens and others come into form we will be at the very top alongside the best sides on the planet.
