Hi Eds,

If we were to offload both Karius and Mignolet before the deadline, which goalkeepers are we looking at to backup Alisson?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know right now. The club look like they might want to use the youngsters. Bad news for their careers.}

Grabara'll be grand as back up, going to be a top top goalie.

sure we said that about ward BE, for me it should be a keeper towards the end of their careers so the young ones can get experience.

a few cup games a year won't benefit them IMO.

If Alisson picked the number 13 shirt then Karius is staying i believe.
Or Mignolet stays because of lack of offers suitable for him.

I don't agree with the "it's bad for their careers" comment.
If we do have the 2 youngsters as back up they will both be working closely with the first team gaining valuable knowledge of what it takes to play at the highest level and training each day with an international keeper.
They will I'm sure still be given time to play games for the u23s and occasional first team games as ward did . On the back of Liverpool's development of Ward he has just got himself a nice £12 million move to Leicester and is set for life. I'm sure both of the young keepers would settle for that right now.

Good point Molby. I do feel like we've messed Ward around a little but he's ended up with a decent move and LFC seem to have pocketed a bit of cash. not a bad deal all round if you ask me.

Very good point MB. Any youngster sticking around when we have signed the worlds most expensive keeper must surely of gone through the thought process of ‘can I challenge this guy? ’. If the answer is no then best to move on. Fair play to those who decide to stay, and if it doesn’t work, then hold head high with the knowledge they tried.

Nothing beats actual playing time week in, week out which the youngsters could get on loan to another team. Obviously they could learn from Alisson during training etc but it’s not the same.

A year or two training with one of the best keepers in the world will do someone who can play into late 30s no harm.
Alison was a number 2 just 2 seasons ago.
