Ed001, obviously Can will leave and we'll need to find someone new to compete with Hendo for the holding role. My question Is, that if we can't get the first choice player, Ceballos, is there a chance Klopp may give Pedro Chirivella the chance? He was arguably our most successful loanee last season.

Or is it a case of Chirivella not having a future, and would we just move on to someone else we've scouted like Doucoure, Ndidi or Obing?

{Ed001's Note - Chirivella is planned to have a shot at cementing a place during the pre-season friendlies.}

Would love it if he took that chance, he's done so well for two years on loan now.

Cheers for the insight Ed. Like hjikle, I hope he does well too. He came with a big reputation!

I see the consensus on Ceballos is that he would play the deeper lying role. I confess to not seeing anything of him live, I only watch Liverpool.
From what I have seen of him on the one and only YT, I can’t imagine it. I don’t think he has played there before and looks more of a link up player, running with the ball, short passes into forwards etc.
Like I said, I don’t know, only ever get time to watch Liverpool and YouTube as we all know is no real scouting tool but is that what we think is to happen with him if signed?

I think he would be a good squad player for next season, keeps the play ticking over and reads the game well.

Obviously if we are bringing in more players then get him out for more experience but I would be upset if we din see him don a Liverpool shirt at some point!

If he proves to be good enough, do you think that would cause the club to change their mind on ceballos?

{Ed001's Note - no idea.}

I have no idea what position the player prefers barnsey, but he has made 131 senior appearances, and 65 of those he started the game as a deeper midfielder. He has started 38 other games either on the left midfield, attacking midfield or the right midfield. Sub appearance positioms aren't recorded.

He is much better in the deeper midfield roles, because he is not a quick dribbler and doesn't score many goals. He wouldn't fit the attacking roles in our system at all. He is still only very young and has been used as something of a utility player for most of his career so far, but his best position from what I have seen is definitely in a traditional midfield role. I actually think he'd be better in a midfield two myself, alongside Keita or Henderson.

If he was the sole holding player in a midfield 3, he might get overwhelmed at this age, with his lack of experience. The Spanish football fans liken him to Luka Modric. He is basically a midfield playmaker who can also chip in defensively (he loves a tackle), but he can also cover the more attacking roles to an okay level. He's not a pure defensive midfielder for sure, but neither is Henderson. Klopp Doesn't play an orthodox DM.

With the window shortened and WC taking place I don't think the club will take a risk. They will go for Ceballos if not another player of his mould. Seriously it's going to affect the youngsters as Ed001 pointed earlier.

Spot on, Barnes. Never seen Ceballos play BU I watched some youtube highlights and a DLM, he is not, I'm afraid. Maybe others can help me here.

Brover, you have to remember that a YouTube highlight reel will focus primarily on goals and assists. Most of these came whilst he was playing in attacking positions (naturally) . So his YouTube highlights only tend to show him in games he played further forward. It would be a boring highlight reel if it was him intercepting a passes, making tackles and playing a forward pass to the attacking midfielders.

You'd have to research him more extensively than YouTube. Watch him in full games. Read detailed scout reports and player profiles etc. YouTube only picks out exciting bits and doesn't comprehensively cover everything about any player.

So true MK - he's one of our most important players but have you looked at a Henderson highlight reel recently 😂.

It's a shame that with the shortened window, it's less likely chiravella will get a shot to prove himself.

@ SGRed - I actually looked at a Henderson highlight reel a few weeks back to compare it to a Jorginho highlight reel, and I have to say Henderson looked better.

And I think they were done by the same person.

It did contain virtually all of his attacking play this season, tbf, but how do I know the Jorginho one didn't contain all of his attacking play?

I nearly feel asleep at the one I saw of him. Tackle, pass, tackle, pass and a few excellent diagonal balls thrown in.

Not knocking the guy, I think he’s outstanding but frankly speaking the deeper role just doesn’t make for an exciting YouTube video IMO. If it does, they’re probably doing it wrong and taking too much risk!
