Apparently the club is looking at Butland or Alisson of Roma as potential GK recruitments. Alisson is really good from what I have seem of him in the UCL but on the other hand, Im really disappointed Karius or Ward may never get a fair crack at LFC. Really hoped Klopp would give Karius an extended run to see how he does as the talent is clearly there.

I really wish Ward could get his chance or atleast go out on loan.

Butland is a great shout and I hope it comes off, he is a personal favourite and more realistic than a Donnaruma let's say, put Gomez next to Van Dijk and let them build a partnership/ triangle, Gomez is going to make some mistakes but he needs to learn and I hope he gets the chance to grow in that position.

I am over the moon with the VVD signing as central defence has been a problem for us for a number of years. However goalkeeper has been an issue for even longer. If we were to bring in a top keeper (highly unlikely now) in Jan then I think it's a straight shoot out between us and Chlsea (expecting them to spend in Jan) for 2nd. If we continue with Mig then top 4 will be down to who can mess up the least (similar to last season when us, Arsenal and Utd made it look they were trying their best to throw it away every time they had the opportunity) . For me just putting Ward in goal would increase those chances of gaining automatic CL qualification for next season.

{Ed025's Note - liverpool are the second best side in the league jayden and with the signing of VVD and keita i fully expect them to challenge for the title next season if they bring in a decent cat..

If we were to sign Trapp after the VVD signing then there is a genuine chance that we can challenge for the Champions league this year. Our attack would frighten anyone in the competition and with a potential back line of Trapp Clyne Gomez/ Matip VVD and Robertson we could have a chance to keep most teams out at the other end. Albeit I do not know whether Trapp is cup tied.

I can't say I've watched Trapp but reputationally he didn't sound like a top class keeper. I'd prefer we do what we did with VVD, identify the best possible guy and pay what's needed for him.

{Ed002's Note - Getting the money from where?}

Sorry ed, I'm assuming we'll have the money to make at least one major signing this summer, I'd use it on a goalkeeper.

{Ed002's Note - and what about FFP and the wages? Liverpool need to be fiscally responsible and will continue to spend but that spending cannot simply be “what is needed”.}

Coutinho of course ed002. Money has to come from somewhere.

We are continually told Coutinho wants out. If or when he is sold the transfer fee will eclipse the VVD signing. Thus putting us well within FFP.

{Ed002's Note - It really doesn’t work quite like that.}

Not a fan of Butland too many injuries and I don’t think he holds that much ability. I’ve not watched much of Trapp, Oblak would be a no go but I’d be cheeky and try for Donnarumma, the fans dislike him they think he’s bleeding the club dry, he doesn’t seem to be happy there, Real Madrid have other targets, no other top teams seem to be desperate for a goalkeeper? Worth a shot.

{Ed001's Note - he wants to leave but his manager is the same man as Balotelli so I am not sure it would be a realistic option, sadly.}

Ed2, this raises the question, are we sailing close to the wind on FFP?

{Ed002's Note - It will be clearer in February when the accounts come but on wages yes.}

The financial fair play I know little about so just a question to Ed2 if I may (apologies for lack of knowledge) but is the FFP a seasonal thing? does it go on what we earn? so for example, if Manchester City went and won the Premier League and Champions league which would obviously bring in more revenue, would they have more to spend on players/ wages? Hope that makes sense, I have never quite understood how it works.

{Ed002's Note - It is based on what clubs earn but not all earnings and expenditure are releavant - and it is a three year rolling period.}

How are city and psg able to spend what they like with ffp, I thought it was same for all and not only if you've rich owners.

{Ed002's Note - They can't spend what they like - they have to abide by the rules.}

From memory its at least partially based on your revenue. As in the more money you make, the more you can spend. So if say we were to get a whacking great shirt deal from Adidas then we could spend more in the market under FFP. Is this correct Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Not really.}
