Ed1, has this come as a shock to you, I know we’ve very obviously been after him but I noted something you’d written this morning of wishing everyone would get over the vvd crap. I am absolutely not having a pop, I’m just genuinely asking have the negotiations that have been going on been kept completely and firmly under wraps? Would make a nice change if so.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't been about remember so yes it did, I have no idea if I would have known if I was, so I can't comment on how well the club kept it under wraps sorry. It should have been very easy for them to keep quiet as VVD only wanted Liverpool, the deal was done with minimum fuss as we met the asking price, there was little real chance for it to come out. It is long drawn out negotiations that tend to be the ones that become open secrets. Done quickly and there is little time for anyone to find out and pass on the info.}

Thanks mate, let’s hope he turns out to be worth every penny hey. Hope you’ve had a good Christmas and the family haven’t had you up the wall too much! Onwards and upwards and all the very best for 2018, at least you’re not going to have the VVD, saga all through January!

I'm just glad city didn't sign another good player to sit on bench
Good luck to him a lot of pressure on him.

Eds/ reds. Who out of our current CBs would you play along side VVD? Assuming he walks straight into the first team?

with Matip.

For me I would play Klavan, he has grown in stature and confidence this season, hasn't let us down, and if im not mistaken, he seems a lot fitter now. and faster. he's not your Alan Hansen type but I alwYs feel confident when he has the ball. and he's a good solid passer, no frills but solid.

I think our best defence would be trent, gomez, VVD, robertson. But that said lacks some experience.

Robertson and Trent no way good enough.
Even Moreno is better than Robertson, 8 out of 10 times, the 1 time being a Moreno howler day and the other day a Robertson MOM day.
And I think even Moreno is also not good enough.

TA may be a decent player, but full back he is not. Seen him play so many times and every time he disappoints. Way too stagnant without the ball. Never wanting the cabal back after passing, as if the “the ball is your court” kind of mentality.

Now, Gomez is decent, not withstanding the few glaring mistakes he has made so far, which you hope he will l art from. Else he will just be another Moreno.
If I have to rely on him, I will probably do. Otherwise, there should be better options.

My take is Lovren need sorting out as whip he has his mistake, he is quite simply the best among them when he doesn’t make those mistake.
That said, Matip might be a safer choice, not necessary being good enough.

Yes but Lovren does make those mistakes and on a regular basis, Id like Gomez to be given the chance in the centre alongside VD, I do like Robertson and would keep TAA at right back for a few seasons so we don't have to buy another.

There is a reason why Gomez starts ahead of TAA most of the time.
Gomez is a better defender.
I quite like him, as apart of his 2 silly mistakes (@ West Ham and Arsenal), he has improved. So will not begrudge him a shot at the position if it comes to be.

Again, there is a reason why Moreno starts ahead of Robertson. Didn't know this earlier of course, but as Robertson gets his chance now, it becomes much clearer.

There was not much of a debate when Finnan was the right back. That's the kind of full back we need.
On both sides.

As a stop gap or back up, I think TAA, Moreno, Robertson and even Clyne will do.
As a started, we need better.

I think to write Trent off as back up or a stop gap is a little short sighted, the lad will keep learning and developing his defending and within a few years will be the player you think we need to buy. You have to bare in mind he spent much of his youth as a CM so to both transition to the first team and transition into a new position takes time. Got to let players make mistakes to get better.

Oh, not writing TA off.
So many people speak so highly of him, and I would be Trimp to think that I am smarter than all.

But if I have to make a call, I am just saying he is no right back.
He may yet be a next SG, seeing how he rushing in to win the ball ahead of ayew and finish it with aplomb (and luck)

When Stevie G first played for LFc he played as right back. Never his natural position but he learnt fast. Young lads need playing time to adjust. TAA has incredible skill, but is clearly destined to play midfield, dead ball goals, real energy, tackles and determination etc. I see a young Stevie G learning his trade here. We should nurture him, he is going to be a huge talent and player for LFC.

Tel 1949 - I do not dare challenged you call to be honest. Not with TA anyway, since I wasn't too impressed with SG when he first started too (even if there are many who impressed immediately, like Owen, Macca, Hyypia, Torres, Suarez, Alonso and etc. )

Apart from Owen, SG and TA probably start much younger as compared to the cohorts named.

Oh, I am bit more positive about Woodburn though.
