It’s the system. Forwards just need to finish their chances.

Good post and very true but I also think the CBs aren’t helped by having

- no CDM shielding the back 4
- FBs who are either error prone/ very attack minded or still learning their craft
- GKs who still have questions over them

I’m sure if they had Azpilicueta alongside them, De Gea behind them and Matic in front it would be a very different looking pair. Klopp needs to revisit how he sets up the balance of the defence rather than just the CB pair.

For starters I think we should play Karius in goal, Robertson and Gomez at FB, Matip and Lovren at CB and Can as shielding CDM.

Who was this great defender we sold, one of the youth team the rest of us didn't see? Cos the only senior CB we sold played in many of the rubbish defensive performances during the time he was playing for us. The CB thing has been done to death. Just like the lack of FBs who can defend there isn't this supply of quality players sitting around for sale. As several people have said City were chasing Evans. In fact two Man U rejects were deemed to be top of the options. We didn't look at one option that has been mentioned and screwed up VVD. We then didn't go out and sign a same ***te different player alternative just to spend money. There is a massive difference between knowing we need to change and there actually being someone better we can do a deal to get in. This thong others have posted of anyone would be better, I can name 30, 50 or whatever who are miles better stuff is just people whinging and believing their own exaggerations. We all know that better defenders are needed but the ones we have contributed to a top 4 side. We need better than that but no one is selling better than that so it isn't as simple as just throwing names out there or saying anyone would be better. Yes we'd love a Carragher or Hypia, but so would other top sides cos they're struggling to find that quality as well.

It is what it is and for me the biggest thing to kick them over is if you had one target, why did you screw it up. Especially since the thing they grasp more than most fans is that there weren't lots of alternatives they could have moved onto.

Why all the worry lads we'll win 5.0, lukaku injured in the first five, de gea will bite AOC to get his dream move to Real Madrid (AOC's only contribution to the game) and martial will do a tevez and refuse to come on from the bench with 2 minutes to go. If my bet comes through I become the new king of France. Jokes aside I have aweirdly positive outlook on the game, granted we've played poorly but we still have all season to make up lost ground!

Okay I got this one wrong but I'm usually right honest! But seriously lads if a out and it striker means no bobby the. Still not worth it, the lack of midfield runs into the box when mane is absent is a bigger issue! I'd love to see a two up top bobby and a finisher that would be class, but would mean costing a CM, you lot would complain Henderson can't be dropped yet the other two tend to be more effective so who would be dropped? Would like to say however as a critic of Henderson today I thought he marrtialed very well (excuse the spelling I never was a good kid on school)

Personally I think when one of Mane and Salah isn't there it is a must to play an out and out forward who will score goals. This is the same problem as last season, remove one of the 10 or so a season goalscorers and we have a blunt attack. Firminho is never going to score 20, a good season for him would be 15 and that is because he isn't an Aguerro, Kane, Shearer type of forward. He is not a goalscorer in that way. Neither are Mane and Salah. Coutinho will score less than them each season.

For me the problem is at both ends. Games that are open we concede too many. Games that are close we can't score enough. People will now throw out the total goals stat to which my answer is lies, damned lies and statistics. What those stats don't show is the number of games where the goals have been 1 or 0, despite plenty of possession and opportunities. And those games are where we drop 2 or 3 points and end up struggling to make ECL. It is fine to improve the defence, which will change the 3-3 Watford type games. But it won't change the 0-0 or 1-1 or 0-1 games we dominate and drop points from. And from what I can see the attacking players we field are not natural finishers, their conversion rate is low and the back ups and midfield aren't as good as them.
