This makes little or no sense given we have 3 keepers who could all arguably lay claim to the No 1 spot.

However, when browsing articles about Emanuel Mammana, I stumbled across a link (albeit from The Express) which says we have apparently bid £10m for the Sevilla No 1 keeper Sergio Rico.

Eds, I haven't found any reference to him via the search box, so are you aware of any approach being made to Sevilla about him? Offer seems low given he has an apparent £26m clause, but all negotiations have to start somewhere!

If the Eds can shed some light, and this is the case, I can only conclude that 1 or 2 of our keepers will be moving on this window, which is in line with my 'gut' feel of a couple of days ago.

Thanks Eds :)

{Ed025's Note - apparently the spanish press seem to think so zeddicus, but as is liverpools want they are playing low ball again and are refusing to honour his buy out clause (now theres a surprise) if you want him then pay the bloody money and stop messing clubs around FFS, if you go to a supermarket and want to buy a loaf thats £1 and you offer them 40p see how much toast you will be eating that night..

Thanks Ed025, a strange twist!

On the pricing point, though, if you could convince the loaf that it only wants to be sold to you and no-one else, I'm sure you could negotiate to around 70p with the supermarket.

I'm not sure what punishments could be imposed on you for 'bapping up' though?

It's called a 'negotiation' isn't it?

I'm not sure LFC's 'middle eastern bazaar' tactics are going down too well with the other clubs!

Why would not try and negotiate a better price though? It's not like bread where there is an exact cost to the product and you then add a mark-up with very little profit margins. In my business I get asked for discounts all the time. If it's a silly price then sure I get a little irritated, but if they're making an effort then I usually ask a little more and the deal gets done. If I have a really nice piece I overprice it and there is very little leeway on price.

Hi Ed025, I agree that Liv are quite bad at their transfer dealings but I'm sure its a reasonable thing to put in a bid that they feel is a good starting point. Usually from what we read, clubs will have to negotiate to reach a sale agreement. Although the buy out clause of 26mil is considered peanuts these days, but surely we can't be paying everything clubs want for their players and some have ridiculous fees set as their buy out clause. Having said that, I don't think we need another keeper unless we plan to ship out either Karius or Mignolet.

{Ed025's Note - i think making a lower offer is fair game DAP but it has to be one that is not an insult, i dont think a keeper is a priority either but if you are after any player at least make the offer reasonable mate..

So we are trying to sign him ed? Very strange given we already have Migs, Karius and Ward.

{Ed025's Note - it seems strange to me as well MR but the spanish press seem to think so mate..

Are we therefore suggesting Sakho is approaching his sell by date ad should be on the reduced price shelf?
Yoh can eat toast for 40p if you are prepared to wait.
Imo, the goalkeeper interest is just paper talk.

Everybody getting excited about newspaper reports again. Surely we have learned by now that at least 90% of them are made up as they do not have any genuine news. Why do people want to beat the club up over fictitious reports.

We should just pay the buy-out-clausle and sell Mignolet.

Yes he got better at the end of the season but i allways have fear when the ball gets near our goal because of the stupid mistakes he made before. Bogdan will hopefully leave for Nottingham this summer, ward hopefully gets his loan move to huddelsfield and we would still have Karius as a back up and Rico as our first choice.

To borrow your analogy ed if the shopkeeper set the value of a load of bread at £50k would you just stroll in and pay it or would you expect the shopkeeper to justify its inflated price?

Inflation happens when people blindly pay the price. We have an inflated transfer market pricisely because teams are willing to pay silly fees and wages. Personally I think it's a bad thing that teams are willing to do this as it does ruin football a little.

Now it shouldn't be assumed that I agree with extreme lowballing either (i've been openly critical of LFC transfer dealings) but the idea you pay whatever is being asked is not only bad for the club it's bad for the game. The only people it's good for is agents.

{Ed025's Note - i agree to a certain extent nevada but there has to be a modicum of realism in an offer, prices are massively inflated but you can bet someone will offer close to an evaluation its just the way it is, its no use liverpool being martyr,s and proudly boasting that they did not conform if you finish outside the top 4 mate, my problem with liverpool supporters is they are advocating that if couts goes then you should ask for £100m+, yet if you are buying the offer should be way below the asking price?, you cant have your cake and eat it mate..

Spot on eds. But you won't win if you don't buy a ticket. Like you say, the low bid gets the ball rolling. Hope this one comes through. I genuinely love every man in a liverpool shirt and kissed the screen when mingnolet saved that sitter against West ham? In my heart of hearts we don't have a world class keeper.

No offence but Danny ward is not at ucl level. Yet. Good luck to him, let him go to Huddersfield and sign this rico. Good for us all. I want Joe Hart. Think we'd win league with him but jn all honesty I have never seen rico play. Hope he's good. Cheers guys.

Well I do agree there Ed. one cannot claim that transfers are inflated beyond reason and then inflate ones own at the same time.

I don't agree with sports economics at all. In particular a select few clubs (of which LFC is one) are spoiling many aspects of the game.

It's true isn't it crammie We are building something special here and from what I've seen we don't have a world class keeper. Imo it is vital if you wanna win the league. Don't know much about Rico (love the name) but he is highly thought of in Spain/ Portugal.
