I would snap their hand off to get Costa for £22M. Upgrade in every way for the squad but he'd expect to start every match. We're a step down from Bayern as well.

Interest in Brandt seems to have gone out of the window. Not sure why as he will be way under the price and wages of the likes Salah.

Brandt according to Ed002 wants assurances on a starting place. Salah not going to sign for us to sit on the bench so it is strange that Brandt who was no 1 on the list of players we want and we have still made no attempt to sign him.

Maybe Brandt wanted assurance written into his contract? I read that he's desperate to play in the world cup so doesn't want to jeopardise that by not playing every week.

I'm sure there is a reason Max they wouldn't just spend more for the hell of it. Unfortunately we are not privy to all aspects of our transfer dealings not even the eds are so I think we should just accept it's a no go and support whoever comes in.

Tried to get him. he asked"will i play every week? ". "if you deserve to and play better than the other players in your position"he was told. "so that's a maybe then, sod that i'll stay here in my comfort zone where i start every week whether i play rubbish or not". maybe it went a bit like that.

Or maybe he is a young player who is still developing and needs a club that will support him and keep faith with him if he has a run of bad form, as is likely for a young player.

Unlike a club which will drop him the first sign of not being perfect and a group of fans that will be calling for his head and dawbing rude things on his car if he isn't playing like Messi every week?

A player asking for assurances before signing does smell a little bit like a little lack of drive and self belief to me. Whatever the intention, the only way it sounds is 'I do not have confidence that I will earn my consistent position.
