The move to Barcelona is too soon for him now, because Iniesta still has 2-3 years left and it would be hard for him to dethrone him. Not because of talent, but Iniesta status at Barca. If Julian Brandt is our marquee signing, which I think it will be then you have Coutinho moving back into the desired number 10 spot. Why would Coutinho risk going to Barcelona where he won't get as much playing time with the World Cup in one years time.

{Ed001's Note - not because of talent? Iniesta is the best in the world. He has been the main man at Barca because of that. His status is deserved. Iniesta is quality, Coutinho is not at his level yet.}

Just because Brandt is the supposed marquee signing does not mean Coutinho moves back into midfield. If Klopp intends to use Coutinho in a midfield role, then be assured that at least two forwards (including Brandt) will arrive. Klopp's high press system plus extra European games next season means we need at least 5 senior midfielders and forwards each vying for 6 spots in the team. It breeds healthy competition and ensures quality does not drop when injuries and suspensions occur.

when people say coutinho should play centrally, are they suggesting a change of formation and style? or do they mean that coutinho should play centrally in firmino's position? or that he should play centrally in the midfield - i. e., one of lallana or gini position?

Brandt would not qualify as a marquee signing to me, he would be another young left winger to compete with Ojo and Wilson.
Pointless signing.

So Brandt is the supposed marquee signing? Im not sure what has developed or been said since the last Sharopod but were are looking at multiple players including Dembele who would be a bigger signing than Brandt imo.

I mean play in one of the Wiji/ Lallana positions. I think he'd be more effective there dictating play.

Can't agree with you there Ron, Brandt is miles ahead of Ojo and Wilson in his development and will (if he signs) be competing for the LW/ F position with Coutinho (if he's still with us) or will be straight in if Coutinho leaves. Ojo and Wilson are in desperate need of a good, competitive loan where they can play week in week out in a tough League that will get them ready to challenge for the L/ RW/ F positions in the 18/ 19 season.

Personally think he would be a great signing (with or without Coutinho) .

He's another Schürle, he won't settle.

I am not sure that the "marquee" signing will be Brandt but I'm fairly sure that Barcelona will move for Coutinho this summer in order to insure Neymar staying with them. It's just an opinion.

And you know that he won't settle how, Ron? If you can't tell the future then stop this nonsense of just projecting your opinions as fact.

Brandt is way ahead of Ojo and Wilson and that is a verifiable fact. Notice I did not say he was better BUT just further ahead in his development as he is now a German international in a country where the talent pool is relentless. I would welcome him here cos I have seen him player multiple times and he is the real deal potentially even tho he is not world class yet.

Nothing which you have stated as "verifiable fact" (but is really opinion) suggests he will settle. Notice I didn't try and belittle your opinion or call it "nonsense" even if I think it is?

He's a young kid from a foreign league who will have heaps of pressure and expectation on him.
I've also seen him play and been thoroughly unimpressed.

Yes he can dribble with the ball, but so can Aaron Lennon. For me he holds on to the ball too long and misses opportunities. We already have a player like that at Liverpool. Playing in England is a totally different experience for him. Don't quote Sane at me, he is settling into a City squad packed with quality.

Btw Wilson also has international caps but is accustomed to this country. International football means jack-all when you're talking about club football. Being accustomed to a league is an important part of development so Brandt would immediately take a few steps back.
