I'm more than happy for United to throw (probably) daft money at 33 year old footballers.

Remember Gary Mc Johnny?

I genuinely think that Fonte is one of the most underrated centre backs in the league. He made Lovren look excellent and is now making the overrated Van Dijk look excellent as well.

If he was a few years younger all the major teams in Europe would be after him i'm sure.

Fonte is a brilliant player and one of the best readers of the game. He is a real leader at the back and vocal. UTD just need someone like him alongside Bailey.

{Ed025's Note - brilliant may be stretching it a bit harry..

No mate, He is easily inside top 5 in the league certainly after Koscielny 😄.

He's decent. Virgil Van Dijk is a great player though, good on the ball and dominant in the air, can take a pile driving free kick too.
I do however think that Liverpool are done rummaging through the pockets of the Southampton recruitment team.
I don't think we need anyone right now, Milner has made a success at LB and time may well coach better defensive work into Moreno now he is not our 1st choice. GK is a little frail and I would love to see us get Begovic (Like they would sell to us right now) or Butland (I know he's injured) but that's not of massive concern to me. I think all keepers make mistakes and both Karius and Mignolet have really good points but both have weaknesses.
I would rather wait for the summer than pay over inflated prices now.

IMO At CB we have

Matip - looking a great talent and obvious starter
Lovren - has his good days and some bad days but a credible first team performer
Klavan - sensible bit of business as an experienced backup but not really convincing as a guaranteed starter
Gomez - Talented prospect but untested at CB

To me this looks a sensible balance of two first teamers, a backup and a strong youth prospect but I would be tempted to upgrade one or other from Lovren/ Klavan if we find a top quality and experienced player becoming available as they both have the jitters every now and again. Jonathan Tah or Sule perhaps otherwise we're better off sticking with what we have and investing in Gomez.

Davey, I do remember Gary Mc but he was free and it was a long time ago and the PL intensity is probably greater now.

Intensity is different but players were kicked more.

I thought this was a Liverpool page anyway
