ya he has suffered several serious injuries, but when fit he is a very good defender.

Looks like a great defender, but he hasn't played more than 18 games a season since 2011/ 12, and only 12 games since the start of 2015/ 16.

To be honest, as great as he is, that is a scary injury record for a 27 year old. If he was a lot younger, maybe it was growing pains etc like Gerrard had in his late teens/ early 20s. But it seems to be an ACL injury 4 years ago that kicked off this injury ridden spell.

Too much risk.
