So does it look likely that Moreno will be first choice with Milner backup and Klavan, Sakho and Gomez filling in if/ when needed Ed? Or is Milner actually going to be first choice?

I'd have hoped Flanagan could have another go at either full back position as he did in the 13/ 14 second place season but he doesn't seem to be a part of Klopp's plans. Has he gone out on loan yet?

I think we've missed a massive trick with Chilwell, and I'm surprised we haven't pushed more for Amavi since missing out on him!

{Ed001's Note - it looks like we are going to give Milner a go as first choice. Moreno is last resort.}

Why the f'ing f aren't we buying a left-back? I don't even care if they are worse than James Milner is at it.

damo,

re-read your post mate. if they're not even better that milner then it's a WASTE OF MONEY. if no-one is available of the required standard then we hold our nerve.

i'd argue that because it's such a crucial position in our team in terms of weakness it's double important we get it right. that means not buying another moreno but buying someone who we see as the long term future - it was chilwell but that ship has sailed.

Lots of talk about a bid going in for Hector today.

I'd rather have Arbeloa back. he's an actual defender y'know.

Can't Klavan supposedly play LB as well as CB? Think he might have earlier in his career. Not ideal and he isn't going to be bombing down the flanks but from his pre-season showing he should at least be solid.

Klopp has a history of converting midfielders into full backs. I'd be fully behind giving Milner a shot at the position. He has a lot of the attributes.

As for Moreno, i wish people would lay off the fume a bit. In home games against inferior sides when most of the game is played in the opposition half, he's a great asset to have out wide to break down teams.

For more difficult games, where some discipline is needed, give milner a shot.

Best left back I remember :-)

87red, you are joking. If you want to convince us that playing a midfielder in his thirties at LB is better than playing a specialist at the position then you'll be waiting a long time for us to be convinced. The fact of the matter is that we messed up the Chilwell deal and since we seem to not want to panic buy, we are putting a bandaid on the issue and you are trying to spin it as if there was no one else out there we could've gotten. You trying to tell me that no LB on the face of the earth is good enuff for us? Really? Nonsense! We messed up and that's that so stop spinning it as a positive because it isn't.

Wow ed. Really?

I was aware Milner was to be back up but now he looks to be first choice at LB? Is that how its going to be mate?

Your obviously aware that we are not over pushing to bring one in.

{Ed001's Note - it is certainly looking that way.}
