So read a couple of sites today saying that Klipperty is looking to bring in Kevin volland this summer. I was wondering if the eds have heard anything about this. Both reports seem to suggest that he has a release clause in his contract of £14.5m which seems very low for a player of his quality.

Have to say I would love to see him come to Liverpool hI'm and Firminio looked lethal together last year. I know we are overstocked with players at the moment and any interest would be subject to making room first.

{Ed001's Note - I know nothing of release clauses just that he is a player Klopp identified as a player he would like checked out extensively, with a view to potentially attempting to sign him. That was one of the first names he put forward after joining.}

Ed you've said you don't expect anything to happen with Volland this summer, is there is a particular reason for that such as Hoffenheim unwilling to sell?

The naysayers won't be happy! A left footed right forward who cuts inside? Whisper it quietly mate.

Is he better than what we've already got?

Not clear cut in my opinion, he doesn't exactly shine in the weaker slower Bundesliga. Looks a very limited player to me, I prefer Markovic to him.

Ron he is currently much better than ibe and ojo who both need loans. Ibe to sort of get back on track and ojo to continue his development. Hopefully both go to PL clubs. If that is to happen we need a new winger (I think we need one regardless as we have none that are good enough) . Markovic and a new winger would be great additions going into the new season. And if that new winger is volland then I'd be pretty happy. Imagine who we would sign under Rogers.

He doesn't even impress on YouTube and that's saying something!

He reminds me of a quicker Kuyt, not a bad thing. Once we have bought a top world class GK, CB and LB, we sell all that want/ need to be sold then we can look at this and see what cash we have.

Kevin Volland can play left wing, right wing and striker. He is pretty good at all of them. It seems he is a player Klopp is very much interested in going by the Ed's comments regarding Klopp wanting him watched extensively. Would be a good signing IMO.

Did a bit of YouTube scouting (I know)
But as I was watching him I was wondering do we have any players currently here who do what he does? And no I don't think we do.
He is defo a winger for starters who can play both sides,
But unlike anyone we have he's someone who actually either gets himself or the ball into the opposition box very quickly and his balls are a lot more accurate than say Morenos or millers, we seem so slow in attacking sometimes, this guy would be great in the counter attack and high press.
In one video, his first goal was an absolute peach of a free kick so hopefully he's a good free kick taker as well, something we are also sadly missing, if he can take corner kicks as well then that's another bonus as I don't think I have seen many beat the first man since the days of Kenny.
His stats on the video where played 30, scored 9 and assisted 6 if I remember right? I can't see Ibe or Ojo scoring that next season, (in future yes) .
Ibe and Ojo don't seem ready at all for me, after watching this fella it's obvious we either need him or a similar type player as that type of player is a dimension we severely lack right now, Ojo could be his understudy and eventual replacement.
One thing I did think was, Origi especially would shine playing alongside volland, origis pace, power, positioning and explosive runs would give volland something to aim for all game.
Maybe if we had Volland on the left wing providing width and forward runs Moreno and smith might stay in position at left back and actually defend? But maybe that's wishful thinking haha.

How do you guys think Ibe and Ojo will become ready? By shipping them out on loan or persevering with their development by playing in the LFC first team at the appropriate time? If we see players that are only marginally better than our youngsters (Ibe and Ojo are 20 years old or younger) how can they get better? Volland has several more experience of top league first team level than they do, so naturally he might be better today.

In regards to Ibe and Ojo getting ready then I don't know really, but in my opinion looking in from the outside I would say Ibe needs a loan to get out the spotlight here at Liverpool and get more gametime so he can concentrate on his game.
Ojo, like I said I would have as backup/ understudy to volland or similar as he will get gametime and top class coaching from Klopp, I'm not sure a loan would be in his or the clubs best interests, unlike Ibe.

The concern is that if the reserve leagues are now as weak as everyone says they are then loans are the only way to bridge the gap between 16-18 year olds coming out of academy and first team. But then the loans have to be relevant, i. e. right level, playing the right style or else they go off, play lots of games but still have to learn to step up to the level and play the way the manager wants. Ibe may be a symptom of the bigger problem we have. He has ability but has hit that gap between too good for age group but not ready for regular first team. At which point he stagnates, others like Wisdom have done the same. We keep talking about the talent in the academy and the potential is there but unless a way can be found to bridge that gap then we will just be producing players who leave at 18-21 to play elsewhere, usually at a lower level.

In regards to Kevin Volland.

I think Volland is exactly the type of player Klopp is looking for i. e. If a young Dirk Kuyt was still in our team he would be a key player for Klopp and Volland is in a similar vein, however with a bit more in his locker than Kuyt had in terms of technical ability and speed.

As evidenced by Klopp playing Firmino as a false 9 away against Villarreal and at several other times, it would appear that depending on opposition Klopp likes to use a defensive forward or false 9 option, Volland would suit this position very well. As previously stated Volland can also play on either wing making him very adaptable just like Kuyt. I think Volland would be primarily used as a false 9 striker in away fixtures against low-mid table opponents where we have struggled this season, with Sturridge primarily being saved for the bigger games, Europe (if we make UCL) and at home, or coming off the bench as an impact player against weaker teams if needed. If Sturridge is not satisfied with this role then I think Klopp will look to move him on and don't be surprised if a bid for Gonzalo Higuain was put forward if we make the UCL. Otherwise Klopp might plump for Alexandre Lacazette to fill the void.

In terms of our forward options Volland would complement what we currently have and no doubt we will offload Benteke for about GBP25m which is close to what Hoffenheim will probably ask for. Volland also was very well suited playing with Firmino at Hoffenheim and it would be great to see that partnership flourish again at Anfield.

If we went into next season with Sturridge, Origi, Volland, and Ings as our strikers we would not struggle for goals.
