Ed2 reports as of last night of our interest in Jetro Willems. Contract runs out in the summer of 2017. Could you see us move for him?

{Ed002's Note - It seems unlikely.

Jetro Willems was of long-term interest to Manchester United but they opted for Shaw. Now he is looking looking to move and stalling on a new contract; Willems will probably have an offer from Manchester City but that may not make him first choice.}

Be a good signing I think, sell Moreno and sign willems as replacement. Smith as backup/ rotation get him some experience because he will be top class.

{Ed002's Note - And Gomez?}

Ed002 you mention gomez as a left full

Rogers played him there that's all he isn't even left footed nor a full back

Just because he played there doesn't mean a club should settle

Same with firmino as a striker he can do a job there but wouldn't go into a season considering him as one of our strikers.

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers knew, quite rightly, that Gomez could play left back and was far from ready to play centre back at this level. If Klopp only sees him as a centre back then I would suggest his career is over at Liverpool and they should let him move on.

Klopp has made it clear that he counts Firmino as a striker. Perhaps he is lying?}

Gomez original position is cb, not full back.

I think Firmino played AM at Hofenheim all along, Klopp use Firmino as striker as there is no other with same appreciation of space. I think once Ings fit, it will be ings and sturridge upfront.

Gomez is not a left back - Right back or centre back. Think he will play right back this season, because he's better than flanagan and clyne.

No harm calling him a striker this season as we needed him there but if we want 4 strikers next season I would want 4 strikers not 3 and firmino.

{Ed002's Note - So Firmino out as well then. Interesting.}

If the gotze rumours are true u could see firminho as a st.

Why would you not want firmino as a striker? His record is superb when playing there.

Hardly said i want out now did i

Want him in his best position to benefit the team.

{Ed002's Note - So Coutrinho out then? You seem to have a very different idea from Klipperty about the players.

What a load of tosh!

Firmino is a forward. Klopp said so himself. His playing style is not that of a typical 'number 9', so what?!

However, Ed002, Gomez is no left back. Right back maybe to allow him to mature before moving to centre back. Not left back.

He's no more a left back than Markovic or Ibe are!

{Ed002's Note - Gomez can play on either side and that was one of the reason Rodgers was keen on him. He was used on the left and if you think he can only play on the right then it would best to look to move him on as he is not what the club were expecting when he arrived.}

11.) 28 Mar 2016
28 Mar 2016 12:49:10
Do you think Klopp sees him as a left back ed?

{Ed002's Note - He won't be looking to use him at centre back.}

Gomez is a very versatile player. He is comfortable across the back. With clyne and flanno as rbs, sakho, lovren, matip and a new cb coming in he won't be playing there. Moreno and smith don't impress me at lb but Gomez did.

To be fair in 2001 Carragher wasn't a first team centre back but filled in at either left or right back.

I'm sure that experience helped him when he did finally move centrally to partner Hyppia. To throw Gomez in CB now could well finish a promising career before its even started. Let him challenge the FB's for the next two to three years until he has 60/ 70 premier league games under his belt and then he'll hopefully have the know-how to take up his preferred role.

Gomez is 18/ 19 and coming back from a season long injury.
Personally I don't expect him to figure much for the first team next season. He needs time to get his fitness and sharpness back. Klopp won't rush him, he's no fool.

28 Mar 2016 22:51:08
Gomez looked awesome at LB before his injury. He was ahead of Moreno and everyone was raving about what a player we have on our hands. Now he's a RB who can't play LB?

What did I miss?

16.) 29 Mar 2016
29 Mar 2016 07:58:19
The kid has shown his able to play at Lb, suggesting otherwise seems a bit odd. Give it a rest he is seen as Lb by the club and did well at it.

{Ed001's Note - he played a game or two well and was dropped for Moreno before his injury. He is not a lb and is not seen as one by the club. He is seen as cover at full back and centre half, if he gets back to full fitness and form, with a future yet to be decided.}

And Kompany was bought as a CM and Henry as a LW and Eric Dier as a CB. All have been a success in different positions to what they were brought in for and they are just a few in a long list! As a former player it annoys me when people pigeon hole a player in to one position and think they can't play any others! Nobody is born a particular position they learn it! Gomez can learn any position because he had talent. Same with Firmino. Ed2 you are very short sighted if you can't see this.

if Gomez isn't ready for CB how can he be ready for first team lb? I'm happy to see him used at either position and integrated into the team as he made some very good displays before his injury. For me I'd be happy with
Rb: flanno/ clynne
Lb: new lb/ smith/ Gomez
CB: lovren/ sakho/ matip/ new CB/ Gomez
I'd happily move the rest on if that was pissible.
