Martin Skrtel under consideration for the captain's armband.

Please no. He's not the first name on the team sheet - or shouldn't be. I don't think it would be a good move, personally.

Eds - has he even signed a new contract?
Was the offer revised from the previous version?

I'm not saying he is the finished article but let me humbly opine that Hendo should be captain. And Milner vice captain, or possibly Lallana if he can establish himself.

I know there is a breed of Liverpool fan that believes it should only be a Scouser wearing the captain's armband, but Flanno is nowhere near ready for that. Eds - do you know if he is seen as a future leader?

Sorry, lots of questions there amongst lots of opinions.

{Ed002's Note - The expectation is that he will.}

Why does Milner or Lallana deserve to be an LFC captain now when people like Lucas, the longest serving LFC player in this squad from this year, is still around?

{Ed002's Note - The captain certainly does not need to be the longest serving player. You ideally want the best leader.}

Never seen anyone suggest Flanno for captain. Henderson for me with Lucas vice-captain and then Milner next in line would be my choices.

Lallana has enough to worry about to get into the team so no chance for me.

Exactly Ed2, now Gerrard and Carragher have departed I don't see a huge amount of maturity and leadership besides Hendo, Milner & Lallana.

Milner would possibly be a good choice in my eyes but having just signed it may be too soon, although I might be wrong.

Lucas is again not one of the first names on the team sheet (rightly or wrongly) so it's difficult to see it until or unless he can establish himself.

It's very early days for Flanno, but being a local lad he would be a popular choice one day.

Sakho if he could get his English well, He is one of the most important and guaranteed starter.

I didn't realise Skrtel's needlework skills were that good, especially with elastic.

Is he being lined up for the new kits too?

I like Skrtel always have, he is probably our most intimidating player and he's not afraid to rough up the opposition which i don't see thru so much of our team. Could be worse candidates for the armband. Eds how important is the role in fairness

{Ed001's Note - very important when you have a young team.}

And why not, as vocal as Hendo and gives his all.
Go Skerts

Until the season is under way I don't know we have a first choice between Skrtel, Sakho, & Lovren so I don't see Skrtel can be guaranteed to play & therefore cannot be captain. And that's before you factor the presence of Illori.

As Ed1 says; he has had trouble in his position co-ordinating with anyone other than Agger, so if he is a problem for our defence he can't have much of a future. Unless something changes that - like a new coach/assistant manager maybe - I don't see how he can have much game time guaranteed. He does have redeeming qualities, he knocks in a few goals and is fierce going forward. But as a CB he doesn't seem to know where he is meant to be in front of his own goal & cannot mark the opposition.

I did not expect him to be offered a new contract in all honesty.

It's difficult to see who will be ever present in midfield now as well. Milner has had guarantees of game time - we are led to believe - but I would have thought Hendo having more years ahead of him in the game will see more starts than Milner. He looks to be the anointed one & I struggle to see who else fits the role currently.

Still, a lot will happen between now & 9th of August.

Sakho for captain? The same guy that jumped in his car and ditched the game when he realized he wasn't starting. I think it was one of the Derby's.

Skrtel never communicates on the pitch, ever. Not captain material and plenty of other better prospects ahead of him (Henderson being the stand out name).

Good evening ladies and gents. Not going to get into who should be captain but I do have my doubts about Henderson.
1. That infamous dealing with Balo over a penalty, yes Hendo was selected as penalty taker, at that point Balo was on the bench. As captain knowing Balo's record Hendo should have handed the ball to Balo.
2. With amount of midfielders in the team to date, are we sure Hendo is going to be a permanent starter?
I don't like Skirtyle as a defender but he has the grit a young inexperienced team requires and Brenda likes him.

Henderson is far more likely to be starting than Skrtel, least if we want our best players starting. Balotelli was wrong in that incident - he should be taking orders from the captain. You'd probably say Hendo bottled it if he just left Balotelli to take it without complaint - damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Yes Seano he should have especially as they both had 100% records at taking penalties. Balo never missed one and neither Hendo, but Hendo had never taken one. I still believe a captain leads and reads the game on the field as Gerrad did, in my view if Hendo as captain had given the ball to Balo as a proven penalty taker he would have received more respect and proven himself as a captain and not a yes sir no sir man. Don't get me wrong the whole incident was foolish and childish but a captain should know his players and how they react. Maybe Hendo should, have shoved Balo aside and missed the penalty just because Brenda said so? Good captain? Maybe?

Why are you so sure Hendo would have missed? Take your tongue out of Balotelli's backside for a second - he was petulent, he should have listened to his captain and he should not be doing whatever he wants irrespective of team mates, team orders, etc. I don't like Rodgers but he is the manager - if he designates Henderson as penalty taker then that is who should be taking the penalty. Balotelli has a history or pratting around like he did and it is inexcusable, I don't see how that incident renders Henderson unworthy as captain.

You clearly have a problem with Henderson, I don't know why, but its affecting your judgment: 'are we sure Hendo is going to be a permanent starter?'

It should be Hendo since Skerts isn't a leader and doesn't communicate. Vice-Captain at best for him, although if he stays he should concentrate on improving his game so any kind of title would be a distraction. Hendo & Lucas have got the personality and loyalty to make a fine Captain + Vice pair.
