Not the news most will want to hear but Bacca has agreed a deal in principle to join AC Milan. Its now up to our committee to decide quickly if they want to hijack the deal before he puts pen to paper. Waiting on Villa for a response on Benteke could prove costly.

So they would accept 17mill from Milan but they want us to pay the full release clause. Unless this is a fabricated story I think a lot of clubs lack in respect, this has happened on a few occasions. Why do they think they can take English clubs for a ride but shake at the knees when clubs like AC Milan come calling? Who knows maybe if we put in that sort of offer a deal could be done, but it seems English clubs are most held at ransom, and when we offer below the asking price (which is what other European clubs do) we are having a laugh?

{Ed002's Note - Just to be clear, Milan are in a much better position to negotiate than the only other club who made an offer, Roma. Liverpool didn't make an offer at all. The club knew the asking price but critically, as I explained, knew the terms and that was the issue that needed to be overcome.

The first offer made for Kovacic was, quite frankly, a joke. The overpaying for Firmino will form the basis of a joke as well someday. But please don't forget, the terms of any deal are important - which is why the Kovacic price was higher for Liverpool.}

Is that why we paid £35m for Andy Caroll?

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with AC.}

I presume things will become a lot clearer by tomorrow if Liverpool want to make the move for bacca or try for benteke etc? Or is bacca definitely moving to Milan

{Ed002's Note - It is as I have explained.}

Your not expecting firmino to live up to his price tag then ed?

{Ed002's Note - I didn't say that - the point is that Liverpool significantly overbid anyone else.}

I would be very disappointed if we don't bid for bacca then pay more for Benteke when clearly he won't suit the way we play just when you think the transfer commitee have got things right

Is it a case of the total value for Benteke would be higher but Sevilla would want a higher up front fee fot Bacca which might rule us out from making a bid?

{Ed002's Note - I would not try to compare the two quite so bluntly. I have explained that Sevilla want a single cash payment for the player but the offer from Roma was not enough. Liverpool did not make an offer to Sevilla. Milan have an advantage - but we have been there. For Benteke the terms are unknown to me but Aston Villa has a price for the player and Liverpool are keen, but want a lower price.}
