Hi Eds, have been reading posts and your replies with interest and do wonder if two young and relatively inexperienced managers like Alonso and Amorin would actually want the Liverpool role so early in their careers (obviously Alonso doesn't), as it's a huge challenge to manage a club of Liverpool's stature and the weight of expectation that comes with it, but also to follow Klopp is doubly challenging. I remember Emery, who I admire, struggled at Arsenal after Wenger left and everyone struggled at Man U after Ferguson and Potter was touted as the next top manager and failed at Chelsea.
For someone like Amorin, it feels like a huge risk for both Liverpool and Amorin, but there doesn't seem to be too many other options out there but I'd like to know your thoughts on Michel from Girona?
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure that they would both be open to an offer from Liverpool and it can always be a risk brining in a new manager. Michel has had an exceptional season but he is not an option for Liverpool. de Zerbi is perhaps still an option but there are two other sides ahead of Liverpool in chasing him. Nagelsmann remains an option.}

Confirmed Alonso is not coming to Liverpool.

{Ed014's Note - confirmed, Klopp is staying!

Hi eds2
Could you tell us what type of manager Amorim is. What type of football can we expect if he is our next manager.
Thanks.

 0

{Ed002's Note - A back three and attacking football.}

Ed002 you are spot on as usual, being reported that xabi will be staying at leverkusen like you’ve said. Do you think Amorim is the most likely now?

 1

{Ed002's Note - I expect he will now be first choice.}

 2

29 Mar 2024 09:26:02
Ed2 you have been confidently relaying this message to us all along so not surprised in the least, but just curious what occurred over the last few hours that has led the media to form this opinion all of a sudden? The Bayern president has said something but that’s his view of the what could transpire in relation to Bayern. Does that same sentiment apply in relation to Liverpool too or there is still a chance for Liverpool regardless of where Bayern stand in this?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything specific but the reality of being 10 points clear of Bayern with I think only eight games to go has resulted in Bayern accepting they will need to look elsewhere to replace Tuchel. Liverpool have perhaps now grasped that same thought process and will concentrate their efforts on others.}

Ed, would Liv be willing to pay for his termination clause? Or would Sporting be willing to negotiate his termination clause? I assume negotiation with Sporting is out of the way for Liv.

 0

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool wish to sign him they will need to pay the termination clauses of him and his staff in full and in a single payment - they know that - and it will be the case for any manager/coach who is currently employed. Nagelsmann would not require any termination clause to be paid.}

We only want people at this football club who want to be here.

 5

29 Mar 2024 11:09:49
Such a shame that we have burnt our bridges so much with Sporting that there is not even the prospect of getting around the table. If Amorim is to be the manager though hopefully we can convince Inacio to come as well if we pay that buy out clause.

 1

29 Mar 2024 11:34:17
Eds - it seems like Amorim does have a lot of interest round him, do you think he will be a good fit for the club in terms of personality and style of play? Having watched Sporting last season in the Europa League campaign seems as though they were very attack based but really not massively clued up on him,

 2

{Ed002's Note - I don't know anything aboiut his personality but the style of play would cause a change with playing three centre backs, four in midfield then two and one. He has done well but at one of the leading clubs in a league which is not as competitive.}

I could see 3-4-2-1 working quite well with our existing personnel. Darwin up front, Trent becoming a genuine midfielder with less risk of a Vinicius situation developing.

Hi Ed002

Looking at reports tonight, Liverpool moving on from Alonso. Sensible if they think he's more likely to want to stay. Would that move Amorim to 1st choice in your view?

 1

{Ed002's Note - In my view, yes.}

Big news. Xabi Alonso staying at current club. Clearly waiting for Real Madrid when Carlo leaves. Liverpool now looking at another manager.

No point anyone posting about it anymore. He's not coming.

Real Madrid wins again.

Uli Hoeness saying it's "probably impossible" for Bayern to get him too.

 3

28 Mar 2024 22:22:45
Happy with that especially if that’s what he wants.
Totally ok with Amorim. Personally think he is at least the equal of Alonso but preferred Alonso because of the connection to us.
Well, nothing is confirmed so just looking forward to whoever really.

I'm here for the Victor meltdown!

 10

28 Mar 2024 22:43:37
First i've heard of it, but if true, is anyone really surprised? He's a Spaniard, and most Spanish managers would dream to manage Real Madrid. You would think one would buck the trend and move to a "peoples" team in Spain, and not one bankrolled by the Spanish elite. But hey ho. His loss, as Liverpool is still the greatest club in the world.

 7

28 Mar 2024 22:51:34
Madrid is the club he’s waiting for 100%.

 3

28 Mar 2024 22:52:17
Has this actually been confirmed or is it just from what Hoeness has said? The bbc are leading with an LFC headline but literally the only quote is from Hoeness, which isn't exactly reliable.

28 Mar 2024 22:09:56
Ed001 and Ed002 have been saying this for weeks, so either the people on this forum don’t read what they post and/ or the Paul Joyce’s of this world just copy what they post here, the Ed’s said that Leverkusen will make it hard for Alonso to leave if they win the league.

 5

28 Mar 2024 23:24:56
Thats fine if he wants to stay but what i find weird is why hasn't he just said he's staying? surely the Bayer fans would love to know. seems a bit Griezmann-like.

28 Mar 2024 23:29:43
As long as we don’t end up with dross like Nagelsmann, De Zerbi, Flick, Tuchel or Zidane.

BossKlopp - what’s wham about it?

28 Mar 2024 23:44:18
Is it me, perhaps as I don’t watch as much football anymore, but other than Alonso I’m not excited by any of the potential managers out there. Guess it’s because Klopp is such a hard act to follow. I always loved Alonso as a player for us, so perhaps I’ve been slightly blinkered by that, but he does seem to be excelling. Anyhow, got an exciting few weeks coming up, hopefully we can get on a winning run again. 💪.

 6

29 Mar 2024 00:35:49
He basically said that its going to be hard for Bayern to get him. What else is he meant to say? Why even bother with th BBC even Match of the Day is a waste of my time now.

 5

29 Mar 2024 01:26:31
IF it is true then good luck to him, only he will know what's best for him, if he chooses to stay at BL then it must be his right decision, we must respect that. Not what we wanted but it's not about us.

Only thing concerning me is I too, am not excited about any other manager incoming but we never know what the future may hold, it's not the end of the season yet. Let's just enjoy Klopp and this season.

 5

29 Mar 2024 01:27:34
To be fair, ed2 said ages ago that if Leverlusen were to win Bundestag then it’d make it difficult for Alonso to leave. Perhaps this is just this likely scenario playing out.

 6

28 Mar 2024 21:43:50
If you are Alonso who is Spanish, who will you join? Its no brainer.

 1

29 Mar 2024 02:25:12
What's Joachim Low up to these days?

 1

29 Mar 2024 05:18:00
Joachim Low is busy these days scratching his balls or arse and sniffing it.

If Alonso doesn’t want to come then that’s fine, it must take really big balls to replace Klopp and everything he has built right down to his relationship with the Coty. Expectations are extremely high following Klopp and not many managers will fancy the pressure. So if Alonso doesn’t have the balls then we are better off without him sadly….

Disappointing news as regards alonso, thought he wouldn't have been fit to turn us down but at same time not massively surprised.
If he stays with leverkusan fair play to him and taking my lfc goggles off probably right call.
If he goes to Munich he would go down in my estimation, hoping to a direct rival after being in a title race with them and all the talking bayern have done about trying to get jim as manager during the race, most definitely wrong imo.
Didn't know anything about amorion 4/ 5 months ago but from what I read he should be next on list. If he doesn't come i really don't know where we go, v v average looking rest of candidates.

29 Mar 2024 06:45:12
Glad this is over to many people assumed alonso was nailed on, think it’s nagelsmann as ed2 has said .
If it is then he deserves all our support.

 1

29 Mar 2024 07:34:58
Who would you have then VV of Alonso is off the table?

 1

29 Mar 2024 07:42:07
Nagelsmann isn’t getting support from me Fatwallet, I see no reason to forgive him for the disrespect he showed us before, awful manager and a complete drop off from Klopp.

 1

29 Mar 2024 07:50:45
Like a few posters have said, we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket. While the return of alonso would be a surreal story, the guys on his way to winning the league with this Leverkusen team and dominating the league, he will surely want to test himself and his squad in the champions league next year and then look to move to Madrid. Timing seems about right. Good luck too him, if he wants that career path and many would, then he’s not the one for us sadly. I wouldn’t want to sign alonso thne have to look for a new manager in a year or 2 because his dream job now became available. The names floating around don’t fill us with hope but I believe we find the right guy come next season. Amorim for me. many say not enough experience, low league experience ect but the guy looks like the over all best fit and someone who has good tactical skill, game management skill and player development. truth is best two managers we’ve been linked with in alonso and Amorim both have very little experience but seem to be the next era of coaches coming through. all my own opinions of course.

29 Mar 2024 07:58:03
What’s Andre Villas-Boas up to these days.

 1

28 Mar 2024 21:46:05
I guess that narrows it down to Amorim, Nagelsmann and De Zerbi. Amorim would be my top choice out of those.

Ed002 do you know if his release clause is still €20m? I think I’ve read it has lowered since last summer but I might be incorrect on that.

 1

{Ed002's Note - €20M termination clause and the cost of terminating his staff.}

 2

29 Mar 2024 08:18:22
Blimey, I’m not sure anyone will want to come to us reading this - we don’t even have a replacement and they’ve already lost our support because they’re not Alonso.

Try a little enthusiasm people, devastating losing Klopp - but it was always going to happen and should be grateful we’ve had him for so long

Chin up folks, LFC are evolving, that’s all.

29 Mar 2024 10:31:00
So surprised he’s willing to stay in Germany for another season if he wins the league. I really thought the stars had aligned for Alonso to manage us before inevitably moving on to his dream job at Madrid.

 0

29 Mar 2024 10:54:09
He’d be sacked by Madrid unless he wins everything within 2 seasons just like everyone else and he’ll be aware of that. Staying at Leverkusen doesn't necessarily mean waiting for Real. He may just be an honourable man, repaying the faith in Leverkusen.

 2

29 Mar 2024 12:46:19
Xabi is Basque, which isn’t quite the same as being a Spaniard.

People added 2 and 2 and got 7 when it was Liverpool, what’s the difference with Madrid? Klopp is leaving this season so it has to be Xabi, Ancelotti’s new contract finishes in 26, it has to be Xabi. Nice to speculate but it should be remembered that it is speculation.

 0

29 Mar 2024 13:00:09
Not surprised at all. Stay at BL for another season and take over the super team RM is building. If he had joined us this summer, I doubt he would have stayed for more than couple of years before going to RM.

Amorim looks like a decent bet but players have to adapt to new system he brings, and he will need to do step up but in Europe.

 0

28 Mar 2024 21:31:41
Joyce saying that Xabi is a no-go.
His knowledge of and love for L4 and the reds would have made the transition smoother.

This feels like quite a big blow.

28 Mar 2024 22:23:29
I’m sure people are going to feel hurt by this if it’s true. But people do need to move on from this idea that there is one saviour.

 6

28 Mar 2024 23:45:06
There’s hardly a great pool out there, Faith. A Rodgers or Hodgson will set us back years. And there are more of those than there are managers than there are of Klopp’s gravitas and credentials when he joined.

 6

29 Mar 2024 12:47:53
Why are people going to be hurt by what’s happened. It was pure speculation and neither Alonso or Liverpool said he was going to be the next manager.

 0

28 Mar 2024 21:21:45
As I understand Paul Joyce isn't so close to the club anymore, but he's just posted this.

Liverpool latest: Xabi Alonso now unlikely to feature on final shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp.

 1

28 Mar 2024 23:46:00
I’d say that was reliable. He still gets more right than others.
