We have decided to change the Teams page to be the Liverpool Match Posts page, so look for posts talking about the latest Liverpool match there.

But most of the posts still go to the Liverpool Banter page.

20 Nov 2017 03:04:37
Also more posts are being added to the Liverpool Other Posts page.

Morning Ed's and Red's. Can anyone tell me the name of the young CB Ed025 was talking about on the Sharkpod please.

Apparently we'll be without Matip today. Lovren will partner Klavan (only repeating what some press are saying) . I hope the lad puts in a storming performance for his and our sakes.

Definitely out. Going to be a difficult afternoon with the Chuckle brothers in the middle.

I think both of them had a good game.

18 Nov 2017 18:36:38
A good defensive performance by the boys today but SFC made it fairly easy for us in many respects. that said, I thought Lovren did well in the unusual position on the right of centre back. he clearly focused more rather than getting at himself about potential mistakes. Well done to the lad! Was also really nice to hear the fans giving him great support.

Agree12 0Disagree

19 Nov 2017 07:43:29
I do question Klavan defending abilities but he did look very comfortable on the ball and generally passed it about quite well. Lovren's life seems to be like a soap opera at the moment, his wife, robberies or attempted robbery on his home etc are maybe reasons why he is not 100% on the pitch however a player who defends so well for Croatia and Southampton before joining us is a real mystery why he is so prone to errors in a red shirt. Great Boss result from the lads today well done! On a side note I was a fan of the Saints goalie before today, for a big lad he had an absolute shocker.

Agree2 0Disagree

19 Nov 2017 12:25:15
It's because we play a higher line and he needs to concentrate on his positioning a lot more with us because there'll be too much space for him to make up if he's caught out Carlos. It's not really a mystery.

He was good against Southampton, though. I know they didn't attack all that much, but he dealt with the few attacks they did put together well. He's often been guilty of switching off and letting the opposition in when he has nothing to do for long periods of a game, but there was none of that yesterday.

17 Nov 2017 22:11:11
Eds, any news on Cans contract? I saw a report that he's willing to sign if wages are met? I hope he stays, I think him and keita could form a long term partnership and with our attack, if we sort out our defense I think we could be real contenders!

On a side note. Since it's nearly impossible to use the search function for "can" can we all agree to use Ecan or some other name when referring to can?

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - it remains as was - he wants out unless Liverpool sign up to x and y. Can’s name is pounouncec Chuun. Maybe that would work. Or replace him with Goretzka.}

18 Nov 2017 07:59:08
Can I ask what x and y are? Are they to do with playing time?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Critically money and a low termination clause.}

19 Nov 2017 08:55:10
Specifically HIGH money and LOW release clause. Oh for the optimism of youth!

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - it is not as high as you would think, he would get more by moving. And the release clause is much more than we would get if he just left in summer. Not sure that it is that optimistic personally, his agent is just making sure Can can get out if he is pushed into the background.}

19 Nov 2017 12:44:26
My understanding is that he wants 150,000 per week and that the release clause is somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000.

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Nov 2017 14:11:27
If he leaves in summer, I doubt Juve can give him 150k/ wk. maybe Citeh can trump that. But he will leave on free which is crazy.

If I am negotiating, I will put certain margin of trade off to salary and sell on clause. Higher salary means higher sell on clause. Can will. have to choose. E. g I can pay you 100k/ wk which 50k/ wk less than what you want but I can lower sell on clause say from 35mil to 30mil.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - why would you doubt that? Clearly you have no idea about the financial situation at Juve. They pay high wages and can easily afford that.}

17 Nov 2017 19:33:17
Hi Eds,
genuine question about Pipco I'm afraid! But I'm not sure if I've seen you address this angle.

With the Coutinho issue seemingly toxic, what was the reasoning behind the club keeping him and turning down the summer offers.
Was it the fact that they didn't have a replacement but now Salah has performed better than expected and he's not such a big miss?
Is it because the club don'd like the optics of being seen as a selling club?
Did they fear a fan mutiny?
Someone in particular vetoed the deal?
Did they think (as all us fans would) that he would just get on with it?
Or is it something else or a mix of a few things.

I do appreciate these things are complex and that the landscape is constantly changing and there's a lot of pressure to do deals.

We can say with the benefit of hindsight it looks like the deal should have been done then. you always hear the football truism that there's no point keeping a player at a club once they have their heart set on a move elsewhere.
So just curious, why did dig our heels in so hard?
In the case of Coutinho and perhaps VVD it seems to have panned out that way.
The club is left with a disruptive player and probably will get a lower fee than was possible in the summer. and they probably end up there anyway!
So what did they think was going to happen?
Apologies if this seems besides the point or a bit dim. it all just seems like a bit of a farce from where I'm standing. wasted energy.

Cheers for all the top work keeping us informed.
YNWA.

Believable3 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - i can’t really answer the reasons why but Liverpool are one of the clubs that embroil themselves in drawn out transfers. Other clubs work the not happy > decent bid > gone paradigm. It works for them. Being stuck with players not 100% committed is not neat.}

18 Nov 2017 03:27:05

Agree2 0Disagree

19 Nov 2017 12:33:39
Agreed, was 100% committed yesterday and there's some man love between him n Klopp for certain. Looks a little greedy at times but has been nowt but professional on the field for us.
He'll still leave though I'm sure.

19 Nov 2017 19:47:05
Spoon and Ed2 I really think you are missing the point here. It wasn’t so much about Coutinho as about a statement to players and other teams that we won’t be held to ransom or bullied by other clubs.

Having just built a new stand and got back into the CL it just sends out the wrong message to the other players and to the world if we go and sell our best players again.

If we’d sold Couts then we give the green light to all the teams in Europe that they can cherry pick our best players. We also then tell all our best players that they can go if they kick up a bit of a stink.

We had no choice but to hold firm in my opinion for the good of the club as a whole.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - The players and other clubs are not interested in any “messages” the club sends out.}

17 Nov 2017 13:53:47
Afternoon ed2, I have a question re the players mentioned in the sharks pod if you don't mind?
Would it be safe to assume that if no more than Can and Coutinho leave (and we do end up with Gomes) we're only going to sign one of Meyer, Lamar, Brandt and Draxler (assuming we manage to get any of them)?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I can’t make assumptions like that. Liverpool will look to get rid of Markovic in January for reasons I explained.}

17 Nov 2017 21:58:51
OK, thanks for answering Ed.

16 Nov 2017 23:48:01
Looking forward to ed001's legends article on Ronaldinho. My favourite player. Just watched a video of him doing 50 keep-ups blindfolded, including a backheel! Also of him chasing after a pitch invader to give him a hug. Made my day that.

Agree2 2Disagree

{Ed007's Note - I think Ronaldinho is often overlooked when the best players of all time discussions come up.
If you're messing about on youtube look up Nakamura bus....

17 Nov 2017 01:04:37
For about 3-4 years in the mid 2000’s Ronaldinho was absolutely magnificent, easily the best player in the world at the time. One of my favourite players ever and just as much talent as anyone I have ever seen play the game.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - shame he thought partying was more important than training. A bit of effort and he would have stayed at the top instead of fading away.}

17 Nov 2017 03:41:34
The happy pills was it? No wonder he was always smiling.

Agree1 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I don't know about that, he just was up until all hours in clubs, flying back to Brazil during the season to go to fiestas, and so skipped a lot of training sessions. He was not a good trainer at all, he just wanted to mess around.}

17 Nov 2017 11:00:48
He won everything there was to win, is regarded as one of the all time greats, and did it all without training hard, partying and having fun.
What a life he has lead. I won't knock him for any of it.

Agree10 0Disagree

17 Nov 2017 13:57:01
That is an amazing way to look at it benny. Was already a huge fan of him but when you put it like that- he's just hit legendary status for me.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - except he could have won a lot more and stayed at Barca for another 5 years and actually made an argument for being one of the best instead he partied and faded early.}

17 Nov 2017 15:16:45
Yeah aoe I’m not sure that is what makes him a legend. Seems like a waste of God-given talent to me.

Agree0 1Disagree

17 Nov 2017 15:32:42
Perhaps it was the having fun that made him so good. Look at the England squad- no fun there! I love how he’d throw a shape, a dance move, wait to see how his defender would react, then exploit the weakness, like in capoeira. He made it like a martial art, with a ball. Shame that he didn’t train. What would we have been treated to then? Same as original Ronaldo I think you said once Ed001?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - it would have been interesting to see, would he have blocked Messi's development?}

17 Nov 2017 16:19:17
He's just a different type of legend.

Agree0 0Disagree

17 Nov 2017 16:39:03
My favorite player too. For me he is up there with Messi and Ronaldo.

Agree1 0Disagree

17 Nov 2017 16:55:12
Messi and Ronaldo showed commitment to their craft for the vast majority of their careers. Their first thought was improving themselves every single day, to focus on getting better and better.

Ronaldinho is not in the same category as those two. He spent most of his time partying, missed training sessions and believed all the hype generated by the media. It went to his head and, just when it looked like he could be mentioned in the same breath of the best footballers to ever exist, he ruined everything. The man put on so much weight, focused on showing off to the crowd rather than play for the team. He was a hindrance in the end and, thankfully, was removed before it could effect Messi's development.

Ronaldinho is not a world class player, in my opinion, to be world class you need to maintain your best. Ronaldinho disrespected his profession by not commiting and, as a result, he should not be considered anywhere near world class.

Agree0 7Disagree

17 Nov 2017 17:13:03
Totally agree mango. I think the point was that he enjoyed himself and likely doesn't regret too much. I think that's what benny was alluding to.

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I doubt it, I am sure he regrets not winning more trophies. You can enjoy yourself and work hard, plenty have done in the past.}

Capoeira is a dance btw, has nothing to do with Martial Arts.

Agree0 2Disagree

{Ed001's Note - it is a martial art designed to look like a dance developed when Brazilians were banned from practising martial arts. Breakdancing came from it, but it is a martial art.}

18 Nov 2017 10:43:13
Hehe, i know the history behind the dance Mr.001 :D and i know that some people call it a Martial Art, but it is not comparable to anything close to Martial Art, there is not one technique from Capoeira that is actually effective when you compare to other Martial art forms. I just got my blue belt in bjj ( not very good) and im a mediocre kickboxer and i would absolutely destroy any Capoeira artist in the world. It was just an bad attempt to slag off what is the most ridicoulous form of Martial Arts in the world ( after aikido :D )

Afternoon all, welcome new Ed333.

Wolfsburg on keep on a permanent deal for Divock - quote from there chief -

"We'd act negligently not to try, " he told Kicker. "We are proud that we were able to convince Divock to come here. "He feels good here, and we are working on the rest. "

Believable3 0Unbelievable

16 Nov 2017 19:08:48
Honestly think its the best move for the lad. He needs to be starting week in week out, but having competition to lose that place all the while. Wolfsburg is a good club too. A lot can happen between now and next summer though.

15 Nov 2017 12:49:11
I know this has been done over and over, but since there was a story out there today I thought I’d ask in case there is a change in circumstance. It’s reported that Can will sign a new deal if we meet his wage demands.
Any eds heard anything on that, perhaps since getting more game time he’s thinking he might be ok with us, or has Klopp sat him down and told him he does rate him etc?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - it is nothing to do with money, the story is complete nonsense.}

15 Nov 2017 14:08:12
This is just the media trying to destabilise a player with some controversy as per usual, to sell a story.

What better to generate euphoria and turn the fans against Can, than to suggest he is holding the club to ransom?

Parasites.

15 Nov 2017 21:58:03

Hi Eds,

I know its said that he wants playing time (which he now seems to be getting, but may bot be convinced with keita coning in) and the Release Clause, but what does the player get out of having a release clause? If he is happy (which he claims he is) playing at Liverpool. What does a release clause give him? Does he just want a huge bid to come in for him to boost his confidence?

Sorry if i've got any of the above wrong. i've tried to stay away from these conversations because im one who is gutted he is leaving.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - The release clause would have to be a termination clause and would need to be low to help the player get out should an offer arrive from a suitable club.}

14 Nov 2017 18:56:24
Could the eds answer if we have any interest in free agents next summer, de vrij, gimenez or arrizabala. Thanks.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained on a number of occasions Liverpool has an interest in De Vrij.}
